Bottom line.....I don't believe there is any reason why children should be separated from parents.

OK, so when the parents are convicted criminals, then you think the kids should go to the jail cell alongside them?
The report found that 1.2 million inmates—more than half of the incarcerated population—were parents of children under age 18. Two-thirds of these incarcerated parents were serving time for a non-violent crime while one-third were serving time for a violent one.
As a result, there are 2.7 million minor children who have a parent in jail or prison. In other words, 1-in-28 American children (3.6%) have an incarcerated parent. Just 25 years ago, the number was 1-in-125.
If the child is just a few years old, yes. Otherwise, the child should be with one of the parents, or the grandparents, or close relatives. Just not with strangers.

So, you're stating, it's OK to break the law, ANY law, as long as you tow your kid along with you, as you want the kid to be your "get out of jail FREE" card, right?
Or, since you don't want the kids and the criminal separated, the 8 year old kid should go to general lockup with the parents, and live alongside all the other rapists, murderers, child molestors, etc. because we just shouldn't separate kids and their criminal parents.
We would need to keep the kid and mom separate from rapists, murderers, and child molesters. I actually think the criminals should be executed.
Why punish the kids?
I spent 9 months as a 9 year old watching my mother leave me in a boarding school. She had no choice at the time. I would not let her go, so she told me she would be back to pick me up after classes. I rushed to the gates after classes to wait for my mother. I waited for hours, screening every single car that came though those gates. But she never came. It was the worst day in my life. After almost 50 years the memory torments me. She came almost every weekend to be with me and my younger sister, and I saw her cry every time she had to leave us. My parents finally solved their problems, and I was happy. The pain never goes away. My father died 3 years ago, my mother has Schitzo Affective Disorder, and cannot live on her own. She lives with us, physically healthy as a horse at age 84, and I will never let go of her. She loves going to Walmart, keeps buying sandals, and two of everything, sometimes it's the same sandals she already bought before. I don't care.
As an adult I was convinced both my parents were nuts. I made sure I did not repeat the mistakes my parents made.
Bottom line.....I don't believe there is any reason why children should be separated from parents.
