McAfee was a smart cookie. Did he use cluster replication techniques in his server setup?
You don't have all your eggs in one basket.or all your backups in one place.
Office managers used to take a tape backup home (off -site) in case there was a fire or something.
I always saw the push into the cloud partly so you wouldn't have control over your data, I'm expecting this trend to change over the course of this decade.

I think it was misdirection, and I don't think he is dead. I think he is in protective custody with the military.
