So no, Carter did not have to sell his peanut farm, anymore than Reagan had to sell his Ranch.
Ronald Reagan hosted Thatcher and Gorbachev at the Rancho del Cielo, and signed a tax bill there as well. Nobody considered that a violation of the Emoluments Clause.
As Alexander Hamilton described, the point of Emoluments is to stop others from influencing the President by giving him salaries or offices, NOT from the President from profiting off his own enterprises established decades before.
