Reality says

1. He and/or his wife have jobs or own businesses that make much more than his Senator's pay. Not every senator is a jobless loser like Obama was. In fact, people who have higher paying jobs before becoming politicians tend to be less easily bought and paid for . . . as their buy-out threshold would be higher.

2. Investment income. e.g. Apple stock appreciate much more than 800% during that same decade.

3. Legalized insider trading for congress people.
