In 2006ish when I first found Patrick, I was forecasting between inflation and deflation. The investment strategy is totally different if it’s deflation over inflation.

Deflation began, real estate dropped, but emergency measures that were unthinkable were taken to perform bailouts. Helicopter Ben to the rescue.

We are in the same position again, yes? Real estate prices are beginning the drop. QT has stopped. Jobs are getting cut. There is uncertainty everywhere.

Will we have deflation this time or more financial trickery?

Fiat central bank systems can only do one thing, print money. Inflation, and eventually hyperinflation, followed by replacing the currency and starting all over again. It will continue this year, same as it has every year since 1913. I think what you're really wondering is will there be another collapse this year, the answer is yes. Since 1913 we have had a major financial collapse in this country every single decade.

Do you want deflation? A deflationary spiral is the surest way into a depression, and the Fed's actions in the mid-late 2000's did not lead to hyperinflation as everyone here was predicting.

Funny, my purchasing power has decreased despite my rising wage. I.E. my dollar is worth less now than it was 10 years ago. I believe we call that inflation. And the national debt has now surpassed our GDP. I believe you call that a banana republic.

What would you think happens to real estate this time? Drops because few have jobs or spikes because it goes up with inflation?

Asset price deflation is a rather narrow way to guage deflation in general. Just as with asset price inflation, toilet paper prices are not rising as well. The key is to keep assets in the hands of a small percentage of society so milk, TP and other goods’ prices are uncoupled.

I predict that big-screen TVs will have spectacular deflation in 2019 for the benefit of consumers! A month ago I bought a 65-inch, 4K, NON-smart TV for $399 including free delivery. It must be the world's last "dumb" TV of that size — super fast startup/shutdown, easy to use interface, and no spying!

I predict that the usual things that government meddles in will again inflate "bigly": college tuition, healthcare, housing. Well, maybe housing will crash.
