On Wednesday, March 20, the Faculty of Divinity at the University of Cambridge sent the following tweet:

Jordan Peterson requested a visiting fellowship at the Faculty of Divinity, and an initial offer has been rescinded after a further review.

— Faculty of Divinity (@CamDivinity) March 20, 2019

Jordan Peterson is an academic and clinical psychologist who has taught at two of North America’s most prestigious research universities (Harvard University and the University of Toronto), and whose academic work is prominent, widely-cited, and non-controversial in his field (see a list of his research publications here). His courageous and articulate defense of free speech, of our political, cultural and religious inheritance, of unpopular but incontestable truths of science—especially biology—and his radical opposition to identity politics of any kind, including that of both Right and Left, have made him an iconic figure. But what is by far the most significant thing about Peterson is that he reaches vast numbers of young people, often through Biblical stories and ancient myths, with perennial truths—of freedom, responsibility, the dignity of the individual, the transcendence of beauty and suffering and, above all, the liberating nature of Truth itself.

Cambridge University seems to be pozzing itself into irrelevance.

You would think Kakistocracy would be ecstatic that someone like Peterson is preaching the gospel of evo pysch to the students of Liberty University.

The Left hates Evo Psych as much as they hate Judeo-Christianity.

Both postulate actors on the state of humanity that make a "Blank Slate" to socially engineer infeasible, albeit from different angles.

I've been a big fan of JP since a good while before he blew up.

He's not comparable at all to the provocateur Milo. That's just silly.

You could watch Peterson's debates with Sam Harris if you wanted to learn more about him. Or many of his lectures that have been posted going way back. His big academic book was "Maps of Meaning."

He likes to talk about Dostoevsky, Nietzsche, Jung, archetypes, Myths, and value that stories have in our finding meaning in life.

He makes very solid arguments against Marxism and certain aspects of post modernism as it was twisted in the decades after marxism was a proven failure. . His thesis (which is only that) is that a lot of the craziness on the left can be traced to these.

I'm way oversimplifying, but the reason for his popularity is that his message fits with these crazy times. As for his being a darling of the right ? To the extent that that's true, its a very good thing, becasue he is a moderating influence. If wish the right worshiped JP, becasue he would point them in the right direction.

But also, the extent that a guy like him can be considered right wing, is purely a rather extreme example of how fucked up the left is these days. That is, any leftists that believe that are way too close minded, and not part of a left that I want to have anything to do with. . It underlines the departure of the left from what it meant 50 years ago.

The truth is, JP is a pragmatst and very middle of the road. The only time I've see him show a slight bit of what seemed like right wing bias was when answering a question about climate change. He didn't deny it, but he questioned how we can deal with it any faster than we are. And he questioned it in general. Sadly, I felt that one time, he was sucking up to the right a little bit, but maybe it was an off day, that he could manage a more balanced answer to an audience question.

Still I'm very impressed with the guy. Very quick on his toes, extremely intelligent, and he'll give you food for thought if you aren't closed minded. I agree with him 98% of the time. And I have a reputation of being a liberal around here. Go figure.

Maybe one of the main reasons I like him is the same reason Kak doesn't. That is, I like his view on religion. He makes the argument that I tried to make with Dan years ago, much better than I ever did. Very well constructed and totally consistent with my pov. Where as we know from recent posts that Kak is a hard core dogmatic atheist. JP's big debate with Sam Harris is centered on this subject. I'm guessing it's something Kak would never listen to, even though Harris is advocating very well for Kak's view.

If it's not that, then the other reason some leftists don't like him, is that he takes issue with the ugly fucked up part of the left. That is the over the top identity nonsense that prevents the left from being politically successful. That's my other favorite thing about JP. I want to see that part of the left (which is mostly on college campuses) squashed before it grows. Jp's insights and popularity are helping in that battle - especially as he gets main stream popularity.

Why does the Trump support team embrace socialism when it benefits them directly but not so much when someone else benefits

You mean like illegal aliens who bring down wages and take some jobs away from American citizens?

No - the socialism so near and dear to the hearts of the GOP voters like the farmers in fly over country who realize all of this flooding is putting a world of hurt on them, on top of the tariffs so now they want the government to come in and bail them out.

The same type of illegals that were employed by the Trump organization, the god king of so many commenters until the media spotlight caused a red face moment for the organization.

Be nice if someone were to lead by example instead of do what I say and not what I do

Try actually discussing something. It's why we're here (the rest of us at least)

Really - Then it is not really this by CBOETrader ?

"Tired of picking on Marcus" - https://patrick.net/post/1323347/2019-03-23-tired-of-picking-on-marcus

Kind of leaning to the option I just cited. Both for CBOETrader and several others - quite a few others actually

So glad you're ignoring me. I would hate to be the victim of long cut and paste screeds.

Let's not - gave u your 3 minutes of attention today. If I wanted to discuss anything with u, u would not be on ignore.

Nobody really cares if you ignore them or not. But it is pathetic that you respond to people you claim to ignore. Sad.

From the person who told me not too long ago "I am probably the smartest person you know" that is really funny - stupid but funny.

Man, this is why you fail. I said “most educated,” not smartest. I know I’m not the smartest person ever, well above average but no true genius. My only real advantage has always been persistence.

Care to flag any more of my posts personal that aren’t but still destroy your arguments?

@Patrick i suspect Kaki is abusing his flag button. I’m not going to post here if he can just delete anything I post.

Yeah SH and JP missed each other a bit. They couldn't agree on the concept of reality.

Therefore, does GOD exist? Neither was wrong

Exactly.

His arguments against equality defined as "equality of outcome" vs "equality of opportunity" are rock solid.

Yet again Kak, you attack others PERSONALLY when they attack your ARGUMENT, yet flag the others as personal. Kak needs his flagging rights removed

JP is wrong "because I disagree with him"

JP is a shill who has tapped into the political fervor of the moment and is smart enough to milk it monetarily while the getting is good.

HIs 12 rules is old shit repackaged - and I do not buy into the all of the other shit he uses to keep his followers coming back.

@Quigley I think he did have a point at least in the latest flag. It was personal.

But he also makes personal comments, so please flag those.

Let's just discuss ideas rather than the people making them.

and that concludes the attention you will get from me today.

A copy/paste article is exactly what I'm challenging you NOT to do. Tbc, nowhere in the article does the author suggest an example of a flawed JP assumption. Can YOU point out a single example of bad data or pseudo science?

You cant. You wont. You will flag critiques of your nonsensical posts, then post unrelated 20 thousand word articles.

I legit think kak is a bot, and a poorly programmed at that.

In Obama's day the media would have passed over this story. For example: the only time WaPo started counting the number of lies a president tells is when Trump became president. Here's a suggestion for the left wing media: Why don't you count the lies every president tells and then the public would know they all lie. Occupational hazard.
