A nice summary by Mish.

https://moneymaven.io/mishtalk/economics/republican-hypocrites-ignore-trump-s-lies-praise-irresponsible-budget-ioo6K2L01Ee3iEZg5gN-OA

In 2016, Trump promised to totally wipe out $19 trillion in national debt over eight years in office. Republicans cheered.

Today, hypocrite republicans cheer a trillion dollar deficit and a national debt projected to rise by about $9 trillion.

Trump is full of fiscal BS and lies, yet his supporters cheer.

The budget is irresponsible. Period.

If Democrats produced a budget with a trillion dollar deficit, the Republican hypocrites would be shouting from the rooftops.

When Republicans do the same, there is not one peep anywhere. Even the Democrats seem happy.

TDS Accusations Coming

In response to this post, I expect massive numbers of people accusing me of TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome).

They will ignore the fact that I supported his Supreme Court appointments, praised him for not starting any new wars, and repeatedly mocked those calling for impeachment.

You referring to the GOP that controls the House, where all budget bills must be passed from first?

They did control it for 2 yrs, and passed the budget then.

Could Trump veto the bill? And how can he promise that he will eliminate budget deficit if he has to submit to everything Con-gress does?

He still has 5 years if Congress would stop obstructing.

There is not enough money in the world to pay off all the debt with interest. It's just a big fiat money ponzi scheme.
Everyone knows that.

Trump is Republican in name only. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum won't claim him.

Everyone in visible Universe knows that ain't gonna happen. Both parties are happy to borrow and spend, but priorities are different. D's will spend on disabled eskimo lesbian transgendering operations, while R's will spend on bombing Afghanistan mountains. Both of those are crucially important for all Americans. There is SHAREHOLDER!VALUE! in both of them.

I do not know what to think about that. Seems that spending more than a country/state/person can afford is a recipe for disaster, but I understand this is thinking of a Neanderthal, and is not up-to-date.

More troops in middle East than when he was elected. 4x drone strikes than Obama.

ISIS eliminated, which grew exponentially under Obama.

No new Jihadi regimes and insurgencies have popped up, unlike Yemen which became really bad under Obummer because he wanted to make nicey-nice with the Iranians.

Yeah, that one is hard to figure, that is the democrats on this. I think it's because it's not nearly as much in their nature to make a stink about something they might be doing in a few years when they are in power. Whereas republicans have no problem with that kind of core dishonesty (and stupidity).

Interesting to see whether democrats will make this a campaign issue. Probably not, since many of their proposals are hard to pay for.

Meanwhile it begs the question, when will republicans next be talking again about the need to reform medicare and social security, which are supposedly trust funds. Their scumbaggery runs VERY VERY deep. Will they acknowledge how much of the problem they caused with their tax cuts ?

I wish I could laugh about what I read on this forum about democrats moving towards dictatorship. When we jhave been dealing with massive and unneeded tax cuts that are essentially robbing future money from the the people. Who do you think is more likely to perpetuate this.

I'll remind you that Clinton had the balls to raise taxes and balance the budget. Bush undid that. Then we had a bubble a bust and now Trump undoes it further. Is it strategery ? What happens if we go in to another deep recession ? Who do you think would fuck the people over worse, iF republicans were in power or if democrats were in power ?

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.
Hillary wanted to tax the richest to give to the poorest after skimming off a cut. Trump wants to keep America great. Do you really think the economy would be better with Clinton as president?

Dodged a bullet.

The fact that Trump is doing as well as he is is just a bonus.

I agree with the premise of the post, however the whole world has adopted QE and zirp/nirp as their new economic mantra and made deficits at least in an absolute / nominal way mostly irrelevant. I don't like this but at least Trump used the drunken spending to the benefit of the working people while Obummer bailed out car manufacturer and banks and gave money away to foreign countries, illegals and welfare queens and Obummercare. Boosh spent it on illegitimate wars. I'm not sure we will return to normal rates in a long time anywhere without a crisis and so far even the global economy is still fairly strong, if you discount heavily socialist / communist countries of course, that failed ideology will never work. We shall see how bad the debt is when the next recession /depression hits and/or the Dollar loses its appeal, until then I see drunken spending no matter who is governing. But the drunken spending of the leftoids on illegals, gender studies and welfare queens would def lead to the worst outcome, no doubt about it. So 4 more years of MAGA!

When it comes to Democrats I prefer the Tao of Pratchet: “build a man a fire, and he stays warm for a night. But SET a man on fire and he stays warm for the rest of his life!”

I get that but I REALLY, REALLY dislike that. It is asking for a crash of the size we have not seen. I don't understand how this has not crashed yet, and example of Japan where debt is completely out of whack shows it may continue for a while in some mysterious (at least to me) way.

That's easy...with Hillary we would be not only worse off economically, and in a few new wars, but also we would be forced to march in lesbian day parades wearing rainbow wigs, figuratively speaking. Does not change the fact that tRUMP needs to be criticized for some things
