Evil Europeans stopped peaceful Aztecs from practicing their culture of ripping the living hearts out of people

For our progressive countrymen, nothing in history is more abhorrent than Western colonialism. Especially when it happened to the ‘noble’ peoples in the Americas. They see this episode of Western history as oppressive, evil and something all people of European descent should feel guilty about. I want to take you on a tour of what the native peoples of the Americas were doing before and while we arrived.

Sacrificing & Killing Children

A couple of months ago, in the northern coastal desert of Peru. Archaeologists found 227 skeletons of young children sacrificed by the Chimu culture. Estimates are that most of the children were aged between four and fourteen. The children probably were sacrificed to stop the rain and floods battering the coastline. To give you an illustration on how this went, the skeletons contained damage on the breastbones and had dislocated rib cages. Archaeologists think that this was due to someone trying to remove the heart of the children. This clearly must be an isolated incident of a rogue culture!

The Aztecs, known for sacrificing prisoners of war and throwing them down temples also practised child sacrifice. At Templo Mayor, the remains of sacrificed children have been found, with the signs of the heart being removed.

If Columbus hadn't shown up, the Aztecs would have been free to rip the hearts out of millions more living people over the centuries. Surely we must pay reparations for this.

Crow Creek
Cahokia
Flower Wars
Mayan Genocide
Yellowknifes by Dogin

It's all over North America. Indians were cruel peoples, hobbitses. Torture and Murder and Rape under the lidless Great Spirit's eye.

Not happy hippies in perfect harmony with nature like 1970s don't litter PSAs starring a middle aged Sicilian.

That's true.

Do those of Aztec and Mayan descent need to compensate the descendants of those they conquered?

Or is it simply that they killed the men, raped the women, and made nice little half Aztec babies, thereby smartly ensuring that the No one would know in the future who the Aztecs and Mayans conquered.

Read "Guns, Germs and Steel" for a pretty good rundown of how the New World was won. This spawned a rash of SF Alt-history novels.

So why didn't the Europeans contract an "unfamiliar" disease from the natives that decimated Europeans? Other than gonorrhea.

The Aztecs had it coming for a long time, and were taken out by neighboring tribes, not Europeans. But to classify all indian cultures as Aztec or Apache is bullshit. Can't speak to the other parts of the Americas, but manifest destiny was a load a crap used as an excuse to exterminate a culture we didn't agree with.

Because most Old World diseases are from close contact with, and jumped from, domesticated animals. A Continent with No Cows, has no Cowpox (and once you suffer Cowpox, you gain significant resistance to Smallpox).

All of the "native" tribes were absolutely savages. It wasn't some made up bogey man story.

People should read the history of the Comanche and their reign of terror over the great plains during the mid-19th century.

These savages used to raid farm towns, rape all the women, use the babies as target practice, and literally burn the men alive at the stake.

I'm glad the American Army finally decided to teach these savages a lesson and relegate their culture to history books. The world is better off without the Comanche culture as a dominant force.

Covers the Globe. Primitive societies were far more violent, had more deaths from violence, and had plenty of conception of tribal territory. Just finishing it now.

I'm not a history person, but I think this is closer to Inca than Aztec.

Yes, when you look at it what Spain did in central and South America was less genocidal than what happened to the Native Americans in territories which are now the U.S. But maybe that's just my simplistic view based on the obvious continued presence in central and south America of so many people descended from indians of the Americas. Seems like they were more about converting than displacing/replacing.

Again, possibly simplistic, but I've always believed this was in part due to the Catholics being more humanist (or less racist) than the more protestant Anglo influenced Amreicans of the north.

That may have had more to do with population density than anything else. Indian population in the area of the USA was rather sparse compared to South and Central America.

This is like what the american general said "I have to annihilate the village to save the village". Instead of helping them change their ideas you have to kill them. Please dont say its the missionaries benevolence that saved them.
Christians are very good at killing tribes. If your mission is always "spearheaded" destruction is all you get.
You know what happened to the missionary that tried to convert a tribe in indian ocean. If it was like in the past they would have been completely eliminated by now if it those lands were under any christian country.

I think it's the aymara, but there were inhabitants of the coastal plain from Bolivia to Chile who were hella nasty and brutal. Huge Mass Graves of sacrificed individuals. They also tortured victims, didn't just kill them clean.

Christians eliminated sutee and the thugee cult - along with thing of other bandit groups - that had played India for centuries.

Christians eliminated sutee, a form of human sacrifice, and the thugee cult - along with thing of other bandit groups - that had played India for centuries.

They left railroads, medicine, chemistry, and advanced agra techniques that tripled lifespans and quality of life. Christians probably save and extended 100x more lives than they took.

Here are all the answers you need for know before you repeat yourself about India. Now for Thugee cult.they were created by british. stop reading white mans history if you need truths.
Railroads I agree everything else is BS. Churchill caused famine and killed 3millions people and you want us to believe that christians gave advanced agra techniques. HAHAHA.
India had advanced medicine and chemistry. India's population was 100 million in 18th century. And you want us to believe christians came and civilized(advanced whatever) India.

We really need Emojis.

Please don't deny Sutee practice, very widespread, attested to by all visitors to India, not just British or French.

Famines in India were always, long before the British. The only difference was, thanks to British record keeping there was finally a way to track them.

Nobody said the British Civilized India. They're like BASF. They didn't create Indian Civ, but they made it better.

But one thing they did do it unite it. Look at a map of 1600-1700 India.

wrt to American Indian tribes/nations, not all is as simple as in OP. US of A signed treaties with many of them, and then broke those treaties when it was convenient, often through no fault of the Indian tribe.
