This is a police officer once again abusing his power. Unfortunately, it is made about race and race relations which are far more difficult to solve - and so essentially nothing changes. It doesn't help that riots only happen when the victim is black - but then again it does bring the abuse of power to light. When a white person is killed in a similar way, the only thing you read in the newspapers is "the family is suing". Haha.

I am just not so sure why police agencies even attempt to defend some of these bad actors time and time again. And, to be sure, if there were no riots I DOUBT that this officer would have been arrested within four days. He would have been put on leave and the wheels of justice would have turned more slowly. In any case, there are still I's to dot and T's to cross - did he truly strangle to death or was there a contributing factor, etc... That should not exonerate the officer but it will differentiate between different levels of murder.

By making this about "race" it just gets people arguing with one another instead of focusing on the problem: police abuse, overzealous policing, militarization of our cities, etc... Instead, one group says the problem is that everyone is a "racist" and that is why this is happening. The other side goes "no - we are not racists" and the argument never ends. It becomes an argument of a different topic.
