After all, if all the polling data up to the day of the 2016 election was correct, Hillary Clinton would be president. Polling is an art as well as a science. Evaluating raw polling data depends on the perceptions — or misperceptions — of those doing the polling.

President Trump’s enduring strength emanates from his being a populist president. Populist candidates and leaders, like Trump, reach out to the common citizens who believe that their interests and concerns have not been addressed by the established government, economic, and social institutions. Trump pledged to be the voice of the forgotten man and woman.

Trump’s populist messages and actions in office have been directed towards his loyal and supportive base — the “forgotten,” the non-college educated and working class (especially in small towns and rural areas), Evangelical Christians and social and cultural conservatives, as well as conservative Republicans.

And it’s working. ...

Democrats, barring a charismatic and transformative candidate like Barack Obama — which Biden is not — need a robust economic plan based on a rebirth of the manufacturing base. The tragedy of an America dependent on foreign suppliers — even for its own medical equipment, protective masks and garments — is reason enough to rebuild our manufacturing capacity.

No, you didn't say that. You are moving the goal posts when you were outed for saying bullshit, that's all

Yeah, whatever, "Coal is essentially dead, as it should be" was made in the context of Biden and Clinton's statements in coal country. Try reading the whole thread its about the election.

We will -- if we aren't already -- become a net coal exporter j

And still the industry is dying, or is there an argument that it is thriving after 3.5 years of Trump? If you think exports will save the Eastern mining jobs, better get your ticket on Mr. Peabody's train before they are sold out. The export market is or was primarily for low sulfur coal mined by strip mining in the West. Oh that's a beautiful thing to base your economy on.

Coal mining, as a long term career, won't come back.

But instead of training ppl to become let's say an HVAC repairmen (Amy Klobuchar's idea) instead of telling 'em to get a computer science degree or attend Yale Law, is not the way to win the vote of the rust belt worker.

Both Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, played the white collar card to their disadvantage.

It doesn't have to be strictly used for power generation though South Africa (Sasol corp) has successfully converted coal to gasoline for decades. The US also has a Sasol type of facility up in North Dakota.

True and how does that compete in a world awash in oil? Countries convert coal to a liquid fuel typically because they cant buy oil, for one reason or another. It makes little to no economic sense, particularly today.

Yes I agree. So Trump lied to them and The Dems didn't understand that these guys had honorable professions that provided for their families and now they are fucked. But its not coming back. I think Biden has a better understanding of this than Clinton. Whether he can enunciate clearly and connect to these guys like the the Dems of old is another question.

So far, it isn't happening. In fact, he can't even connect with Massachusetts/Vermont moderates, his base.

And I doubt anything will change between now and mid-Oct, as his dementia or let's say early-onset dementia, becomes more apparent.

I must admit I didn't know what "cancel culture" is. I could care less, from a personal standpoint it is meaningless.

FFS - it is kind of you to admit that you live in a total bubble.

In case you have missed it over the last few weeks, our Founding Fathers are getting "cancelled" all over the country being called racists and having their statues ripped down by your Taliban brothers.

The National Anthem is being cancelled at sporting events. Aunt Jemima? Eskimo Pies? Uncle Bens?

Our entire fucking history is being cancelled with the NYTimes B.S. 1619 project now being taught at our schools.

Maybe a Euro. There was another poster here (or probably the same person under a different screen name) who claimed he had never heard of the TV show cops.

It’s impossible that an American hasn’t heard of a e decade long television show that is so deeply ingrained in American culture...akin to any American aged 35 or older claiming not to know what The Dukes of Hazard is.
