It's a riot based on false premises too. WGN had the police press conference yesterday afternoon, I actually watched it, and stated that people had been given false information that an unarmed child had been shot. That was not reality. A young man tried to shoot cops as he was fleeing. So cops shot back. Pretty straight forward stuff. But nah. Let's riot and loot Michigan Avenue. Huh?

I'm telling you now, the CPD that I know have been bending and they might be broke after this shit. One of their own gets shot at by a perp and they fucking riot in response??.... Up is down right now and it's fucked up. Hopefully this situation is a one off and it calms down. Chicago has a massive black population and this could escalate beyond baby cities like Portland and Minneapolis. CPD will use their weapons if they feel threatened, regardless of mayoral orders. Or just walk off the job.

It's a fine balance to have enough localized police presence to suppress the petty thieves and thugs but not too much to become thuggish to law abiding citizens.

A big problem with policing and the legal system today is lack of respect for the law. I don't think any of us would rob rape or murder, but many of us have no problem going well over the speed limit knowing there is little chance of punishment. The looters know they're not likely to get shot.
