It's a fine balance to have enough localized police presence to suppress the petty thieves and thugs but not too much to become thuggish to law abiding citizens.

A big problem with policing and the legal system today is lack of respect for the law. I don't think any of us would rob rape or murder, but many of us have no problem going well over the speed limit knowing there is little chance of punishment. The looters know they're not likely to get shot.

I get the sarcasm, but theoretically the Hamptons wouldn't be defined as a city based on population. B&BC needs to provide at least one example of a liberal/left run city (pop. 100k plus) that is run well without massive issues like pension shortfalls, shitty schools, higher than average crime and homicide rates, corruption, rampant homelessness, crap infrastructure, etc.

I'm not trying super hard because there are a lot of cities, but I genuinely cannot think of one off the top of my head that meets the criteria. I'd say Patrick is at minimum mostly right for saying "all" when referring to liberal cities. Sometimes there are unicorns out there but I cannot think of one.
