The woke shit has something to do with it. Fact is while sports took a break, people figured out other activities to do when they weren't working and there was nothing else to do. I have a rough idea, but if someone asked me to bet $100 who is in the finals right now, I probably wouldn't make the bet. Even if I don't watch, usually I'd know 100%. I believe it's LA versus Boston or the Heat? Not knowing this 100% is not a big deal. Not even caring is another.

Basketball is global though, hence why they're probably the most woke league. The don't "need" US consumers at the level they did 20-30 years ago.

As a Bulls fan and having an amazing decade in the 90's and being totally into it, there's not a more hated athlete than Lebron on a national level. All sports. All regions. While Cleveland finally got one with him, they still hate him there. Miami doesn't care, it's not a sports town outside of football and that's more college level. And now he's in LA which loves the Lakers, but again really isn't a sports town regardless of appearances.

Given his skill, he's failed miserably as an NBA superstar. Not many people are interested in watching him, even outside the woke shit. No one likes watching a giant man flail around like a wet rag on the ground after someone touched his hand. He's a great player statistically, but is probably the worst superstar in NBA history if that makes sense given his talent. Throw in the dislike for LBJ and the wokeness and it's a recipe for shit ratings.

Game 6 of the NBA Finals went up against the NFL Sunday Night Football game between the Vikings and Seahawks, which averaged 15.1 million viewers. You read that right: regular season NFL in primetime nearly doubled Game 6 of the NBA Finals featuring LeBron and the Lakers.
But it warrants mentioning that a per-game average of 7.45 million viewers is the lowest as far as the public numbers go back, which is to 1986. The next-lowest was in 2007, when the Spurs swept the Cavs. Those four games averaged 9.29 million viewers.
