@Patrick

What is the legal risk? I'm pretty sure it would be OK to screenshot the current browser window and comment on that, because copyright does not apply to bits that you are specifically selecting for discussion.

Just use a frame, or even a second window for the web browser. I'm old skool, I don't browse the web on a tablet or a phone. You'd have to figure out how to consolidate URLs that ultimately point to the same thing - youtube has 6 ways from sunday of having different URLs. I'd just concentrate on a few sites to consolidate, then worry about other popular sites later.

But what about darker things, where users are threatening each other with physical violence? This has happened on patrick.net. Or uploading child porn? They might do that either because they are just sick, or deliberately to get the site shut down.

Yes, this is a danger. Did I describe my idea, that I want to patent, on how to do self policing? I did a few months back, I'll do a better writeup again.

One thing that USED to be done was that a user's IP address was readily visible and available. This cut down on people doing shenanigans.

Or maybe someone sets up leftist-bots to just spam the comments with bullshit supporting China/Biden and illegals.

Invite only system. I'll do a writeup on my idea again. Again, you're free to use it. I wanted this software to implement it. I want to implement the concept not for websites, but for a distributed file system. I want to patent it, but to do that, I have to show it works. That's why I wanted your software. If you implement it, you have rights to it forever and I'll sign a legal agreement to that.

It's going to cost me about $10K to patent, you can use it any way you see fit, but please don't explain the process until I get patented. You'll screw me. I think I have a very good idea. You live somewhere in the Bay Area - want a coffee or even a pizza? On me. If you're near Campbell California, BlueLine Pizza is great.

I suppose I could just try it with patrick.net with its current moderation system.

It's a start.

People who threaten other people on these sites, they're full of crap. I once had somebody threatening to kick my ass who happened to live in this area. I told him fine, let's meet up at the Joshua Hendy Iron Man Museum in Sunnyvale at 9:00 on a Sunday night. Gave him a good description of what I'd be wearing so he could identify me and exactly the time I would be there.

The next day I berated him for not showing up and called him a coward and so on.

Of course, I didn't show up either. Think I'm nuts? I'm sure he thought I was though. People who would resort to physical violence over a disagreement - they are literally insane. These are people that should be institutionalized.

If he did show up, I would have berated him fro being nuts and dumb enough to think I'd show up to a fight for some violent thug lunatic that gets so upset over words he'd drive to a place to get into a fight. I was in a no lose situation with that one.
