I was not into guns at all despite living in Texas and most of my neighbors possessing huge arsenals. Then, the scamdemic lockdowns started, I could hear occasional gunshots at night, and situation seemed to deteriorate, and I made a common-sense purchase of a shotgun, ammunition for it, and a gun safe. After that, why not buy a few handguns? And then why not a rifle or two or three? Then, why not get a concealed carry permit and go to a range on an occasional Sunday?

I blame Democrats and lockdown supporters for my only addiction.

Sincerely,

a non-recovering gunaholic

for example when 9mm was nowhere to be found

In a TEOTWAWKI scenario, 9mm will be plentiful. Standard caliber for many many organizations, military etc. Same with .223.

Dayum, nice. .300 or .308?

.308

For home defense, 12 ga Remington 870 pump action.

I imagine the sound of racking a shell is almost as effective as pulling the trigger, and a lot less messy.

What is the rule of thumb for diagnosing addiction?
Is it the shear number of rounds? Or diversity of caliber that makes your realize you have a problem.

The fact that I want to buy more guns...and more ammo...and after I research and buy a gun, high lasts for only a few weeks. Afterwards I get a withdrawal syndrome and want something else...for example @Clambo post made me research CZ75 P01. I am confident that in a month or so I will buy it.

After I go to range and shoot off 100 rounds, I replace them with 2-300 rounds "just in case".

That was one consideration, suggested by my Texan neighbors.

Check out this little beast. Can fire 410 shells and any other caliber

Ouch! That hurts my hand just looking at it.

Racking a semi auto shotgun sounds almost the same.

So no need to go to the range and practice before then, huh? =))

Right, you probably have to hold that one tight when shooting shotgun shells. Looks like you get just one at a time too.

For gun enthusiasts who love a great story. This is still one of my favorite books. My son is listening to it, got hooked pretty quick. Gun lore intensive but not obnoxiously so!

Just looking at this the other day. 45 Long Colt and 410.

Perfect "Snake Gun" as in "I knew you were a Snake, before you tried to open my car door"

@clambo,

returning to purchases of cz handguns, have you shot cz 75 shadow, and if yes, how does it compare with p01 (other than price, of course)?

I chanced upon some relatively cheap 9 mm ammo, so now I am back to addiction and need to purchase another handgun.
34   AmericanKulak   2021 Jun 3, 5:22pm

Maybe its like that so she can bend over and let her partner can have it.
38   clambo   2021 Jun 3, 6:58pm

Rb6d, I never shot the CZ Shadow.
I'm sure it's a great shooter.
It's a better target gun than the P01.
It's going to have a better trigger, longer sight radius, less recoil, etc.
If someone were interested in competition he could use that gun.
39   BayArea   2021 Jun 3, 10:47pm

I also bought my first gun during the pandemic.

Glock19 from BassProShop in San Jose.

If no pandemic, I probably wouldn’t have bought one anytime soon.
40   Patrick   2021 Jun 3, 10:49pm

In a way maybe the plandemic was a good thing for gun rights in the long run. Lots more owners now, and they won't want to turn them over.
41   BayArea   2021 Jun 3, 10:52pm

True

I’m planning my next purchase.

Patrick, do you own?
42   Patrick   2021 Jun 3, 10:58pm

I still rent a house, but looking at buying. Actually going to go look at non-Seattle towns around Puget Sound in a few weeks.

Seriously thinking of leaving the bay area eh?

Why that area in particular? Don’t know much about it other than it’s gloomy much of the year.

Oh, when I asked do you own, I meant gun(s) 😀

Don't ask.

That's like asking if somebody owns a ton of gold or a password for a 10 million dollars of cryptocurrency.

Part of having such a resource is (bad) people don't know you have the resource.

I think many people are looking for anonymity.

I don't own a gun -- yet.
46   clambo   2021 Jun 4, 6:19am

I guess I’m just a bigmouth, I tell people I’ve got guns and might be carrying one at any given time.
There’s a car gun in the center console.
“Fuck around and find out.” is my motto.
47   RC2006   2021 Jun 4, 6:47am

Pandemic made me thankful for having a lot of ammo stocked up, I will never let my supply go below 5k rounds now. And if ammo prices drop I will move it to 10k.

They are pretty open about their guns down here in TX. That is a good deterrent for crooks.

@Patrick,

after you buy the first one and go shooting with it, you will have an urge to buy second one..then third..then fourth...and so on.

My advice: buy a big gun safe when you buy your first gun. I am now at limits of my gun safe (3 handguns + 6 long guns, 15 months after buying my first gun), and I regret not buying a bigger gun safe...

Take her to a shooting range. My wife likes target shooting, so this was a way how to weasel her into "gun culture" (+ nearly all neighbors owning guns). She gets annoyed only with quantity of guns, not about fact that we have them at our house...
52   Patrick   2021 Jun 9, 1:00pm

I once took her shooting at the ROTC range when we were still in Ann Arbor after college. The first time she picked up the rifle she grabbed it by the trigger and it went off. It was pointed down range and the bullet bounced off the floor, no harm done. But it freaked her out, so it might be hard to get her to go again. Still, it's a good suggestion, thanks.

rifle

Revolver, and preferably with 22lr ammunition, and double action. Easier to operate, less noise, does not jump when shooting, etc. After people shoot first time without any accidents, many start liking it. Also, choose target with just circles and not a human silhouette - the latter puts off a lot of womyn.
54   Patrick   2021 Jun 9, 1:11pm

Thanks, another good tip. I can imagine that women would not want to be shooting at human silhouettes. It would fit with the large inherent differences between male and female psychology.
55   Onvacation   2021 Jun 9, 1:15pm

I handed my best friend my Ruger Redhawk with four 44 special and one 44 magnum rounds loaded. He was real surprised when he got to the magnum. Don't try this with your wife or friends that don't know how to shoot. Matter of fact, don't try this at all. I was much younger.

56   Onvacation   2021 Jun 9, 1:17pm

With ear plugs AND muffs that gun would give me a concussion headache.

Many BA gun ranges now prohibit anything even remotely resembling a human silhouette as a target.
58   clambo   2021 Jun 9, 4:06pm

I don't think the "pandemic" caused buying lots of ammo.
I think it was Black Lives Matter and cops being intimidated along with riots, etc
I need to go blasting soon, have some fun.

Me too. I got a G19 at Turners Outdoorsman in San Marcos last year because of your thread.

No regrets at all. Just wish I could afford more ammo! I took the wife out to the range last month and she had a great time and was a good shot.
