It’s also what happens when you maintain a medieval practice of banning marriage (which translated into banning heterosexual relationships) for the clergy. Only the deviants who aren’t interested in normal heterosexual relationships will be attracted to that situation. And a few saints I suppose, but mostly the deviants.
And there’s no epistemological reason for banning marriage in the clergy. They adopted that in the Middle Ages because the sons of priests were trying to inherit church property and resources and that couldn’t be allowed. So first they banned marriages so any offspring of the priests were automatically bastards and couldn’t inherit. Then they sort of created a religious doctrine around it where priests needed to be “married to the Church” so they could focus their whole lives on the welfare of the congregation. It is true that unmarried men have more time on their hands, but it’s also true that family and children bring balance to a man, life experience, and empathy for the plights of the common man.
The Lutheran church is a good example of what happens when you drop that pedo requirement for the clergy but keep much of the rest of it the same.

The policies of the Church for centuries had nothing to do with religious faith and everything to do with accumulating worldly wealth and power. First sons who typically went into the priesthood and inherited their family estates, would die without marriage or heritable issue and leave their wealth to the Church. No spendy welfare for legitimate or illegitimate Church brats or spousal units.

The Church was fine with buggery and homosexuality instead of giving up wealth accumulation. Bugger, confess, absolve, bugger, confess, absolve. Lots of dirty dicks and absolution.
