I love my dad. The older we both get, the more I admire him. He's in his late 70s and runs circles around guys in their 40/50s. Works out 5 days a week, is active, and calls himself a fat ass if he gains 5 pounds - then goes and works it off. He's fiscally conservative and retired at 60 with a dual retirement.

His mindset towards covid and the shot has totally evolved.

A year ago: "If I have to get a vaccine to travel, I'd do it so your mom and I can visit other places. I have more years behind me than in front of me."

Today after doing his own research: "Fuck that shot. I've already been to Europe, Central/South America and all over North America. If they require a vax passport, they can kiss my ass and I'll just spend my cash in Florida."

He's content as hell, open minded, a free thinker, and is based as fuck.

I hope to be like him at his age.

It’s when you’ve earned more than one pension. I also have two I’m working on. And my wife has one too. Working union has its benefits, although I understand that’s not a valid option for engineers and developers.

Living much beyond 60 is going to be an increasing challenge with the Nazification and capture of medicine. You better be involved in what they are trying to foist on you, Hippocratic Oath be damned along with the Constitution and Equal Protection.

As are the engineers at Union Pacific and Burlington Northern.

I shit you not it wasn't until I graduated from HS that I understood what an engineer was. I'd watched sesame street as a kido and thought they drove trains.

I was a hellava party animal in HS though.

Even worse, my dad was an EE (but became a pilot during Vietnam)

I buried my nose in books AFTER HS and did quite well in college / caught up fast.

@joshuatrio my pops is similar. He's 79. I think it's something about the silent generation. They aren't fools like the boomers.

He sold his successful business back in the day for a large amount, and invested 100% of it, then went to work for local gov and retired with a decent pension.

That is not really "dual retirement." That is a self built nest egg coupled with a city/county pension. Dual retirement would a guy who took 20 year retirement from the military at age 42, then worked Civil Service until 65. He collects a defined benefit pension from both.

This is technically true. I considered his first retirement the sale of his business, which he invested 100% of and could live just fine off of that.
