I shit you not it wasn't until I graduated from HS that I understood what an engineer was. I'd watched sesame street as a kido and thought they drove trains.
I was a hellava party animal in HS though.
Even worse, my dad was an EE (but became a pilot during Vietnam)
I buried my nose in books AFTER HS and did quite well in college / caught up fast.
@joshuatrio my pops is similar. He's 79. I think it's something about the silent generation. They aren't fools like the boomers.

He sold his successful business back in the day for a large amount, and invested 100% of it, then went to work for local gov and retired with a decent pension.
I also hope to be like that.

That is not really "dual retirement." That is a self built nest egg coupled with a city/county pension. Dual retirement would a guy who took 20 year retirement from the military at age 42, then worked Civil Service until 65. He collects a defined benefit pension from both.

His mindset towards covid and the shot has totally evolved.
A year ago: "If I have to get a vaccine to travel, I'd do it so your mom and I can visit other places. I have more years behind me than in front of me."
Today after doing his own research: "Fuck that shot. I've already been to Europe, Central/South America and all over North America. If they require a vax passport, they can kiss my ass and I'll just spend my cash in Florida."
He's content as hell, open minded, a free thinker, and is based as fuck.
I hope to be like him at his age.
