I grew up in the late 60s and early 70s on OG Sesame Street, Electric Company, and other idealistic late-stage hippie initiatives that actually came to useful fruition, at least in their original incarnations. At least while Jim Henson was alive, the Muppets in particular seemed to be a holdout from the steady tide of political correctness and what is now called "woke" corporate behavior that seems to have taken over the show. Can't speak to the timeline of Sesame Street going this direction, having outgrown the target demographic almost half a century ago.

I have a hard time considering this "too PC." Sesame Street is literally modeling behavior for millions of American children of varying parental investment. Modeling "slapstick" humor to young children is fraught with risk, with whatever middling upside potential making it not defensible in the big picture.
