Well, the US (Victoria Nuland in particular) illegally arranged the Maidan massacre and removed the legitimate government of Ukraine to put in a US puppet.
The US puppet is committed to protecting the corruption of Hunter Biden in Ukraine (Burisima and Joe's threat to withdraw aid if Burisima investigated).
Not to mention the corruption of the sons of Pelosi, Romney, and Kerry in Ukraine.
The puppet then says he wants to join NATO, knowing that Russia has repeatedly said they will not have that on their border. The US would not tolerate Russian control of Mexico either.
It's the US that's forcing this war to continue, sending people to the meat grinder. Zelensky and Putin met to negotiate peace early on, but the US stopped it.

So, per him, there are factions both within the Ukraine and within Russia that want to join the west. But then there are opposing factions which see this as a threat to Ukrainian and Russian identity. If they become one with the west, are they really even countries at all anymore, or just outposts of the western empire run from London and New York?

And that's what they're really fighting about. Seems plausible to me.
