A senior fire officer has become the latest victim of the UK government’s speech policing after he was forced out of his job for “sexist behavior” for failing to discipline his colleagues for using the “offensive” term “fireman.”

Simon Bailey, a 27-year veteran of the Avon and Somerset Fire Service who had previously been commended for bravery, was disciplined for allowing what investigators called a “longstanding campaign” of “sexism” in his station.

Bailey has just lost his case after suing his former employer for unfair dismissal.

The hero fireman received a written warning in July 2023 after a tribunal found he presided over an “openly sexist” workplace.

He was accused of allowing “sexist behavior” for failing to challenge staff who used the term “fireman” instead of “firefighter.”

The disciplinary action followed complaints in 2021 from firewoman Sasha Acheson, a former England Women’s rugby player.

The original British, Irish, etc., did have dark hair, brown or blue eyes and light skin. Before various conquests from the Vikings, Franks, and Anglo Saxons etc. I'm not sure if it's true but I've read that Sean Connery would be an example. At least in recent history.

Back 10,000 years you reach cheddar man, with dark skin, dark curly hair and blue eyes... I think that's the farthest back there is data for.

Be very cautious of anthropology when it veers into politically charged areas. For example, the Cheddar Man reconstruction with near African skin color. Here is his direct descendant, still living in the Cheddar area:

Unless one is eating seal livers with high vitamins A and D (as the Inuits do), dark skin would be maladaptive.

Anthropologists base the skin estimate on the absence of one modern European lighting allele. However, East Asians are light from other genes, as were Neanderthals (who lived Europe over many Ice Ages, since 600kya). I suspect they missed a gene that kept pre-modern European groups, including Cro-magnons, light.

Correct, and it wasn't just the UK. When Euros switched to cereals is when it's estimated the skin lightened up. Last I read ~7K years ago.
