I don't know what she was like in her later life, I just knew her seminal work is bullshit. It was my first glimpse in how a "celebrity scientist" (and I use scientist VERY LOOSELY) can completely fuck up the science.

Used to think peer review would always prevent that, NOT in the social sciences, NOT in medicine. Physics ultimately gets worked out, so do other hard sciences. You can prove everything in those but it's quite interesting to see the frauds still pop up.

Speaking of frauds: A few years ago people were talking about the "E-Cat" a device that purported to do cold fusion doing Nickel-Hydrogen fusion. It got quite a ways, but the isotopes in it were what you find in the standard Earth's crust, supposedly they sold something to some naive company (or somebody in on the scam, maybe to try to create credibility). You want to see how far that fraud went?
