Having combed through many studies I cannot find any study that links either high hdl, ldl, or total Cholesterol to a higher risk of heart disease, in fact the studies show a trends towards the opposite. I think statins are dangerous but could not convince members of family or friends to take a 2nd look at them. While this potential myth has been more and more questioned and discussed even in the lamestream media, MDs still operate like it's 30 years ago and have no clue about latest research or don't want to ($$). Also a recent study showed garlic supplements to slightly increase ldl, which is interesting. Any opinions?
The bigger answer to this requires you to go back to when the AMA was founded, and the shift from preventative to treatment based medical care. But simply put, Western medicine focuses on isolated treatments without regard to your bodies holistic machinations.
