I've never lived in the South, but I have met plenty of racists from the midwest, and a few black racists in California. And from the history I've read, the only reason Confederates are painted as racists is to hide the great atrocities committed by Lincoln and the Union against the American people.

Probably the most humble people in America.
What other region in America are people synonymous with or associated with the word "Hospitality"?

Those cringy shirtless rednecks would give you the shirt from the bench seat in the cab of their pick up truck.

I was waiting to order a beer recently, and heard the bartender saying she had lived in Phoenix, Imperial Beach(San Diego), and Mississippi. Husband is military. She stated emphatically that when they get to move where they want, they will return to the South.

Funny how the SouthWest is so different than the SouthEast in culture. Maybe they get more sunshine, getting to see it before we do.

The War of Northern Aggression.

I was raised in Southern California but was fortunate and 32 years ago married a girl from the south. Still happily married. Best/luckiest decision of my life.

I think climate and when and how it was settled have a lot to do with that. Deserts vs Appalachian's and swamp. Mexican's vs Scotch Irish. Just two very different areas and people groups. Although I think one thing we share is rugged personalities.

“(Santa Anna)has demanded surrender at

The more I read of American history, the more I see that the term is interchangeable with Southern history. The propagandizing of the history of the War Between the States rivals the Scamdemic in it's success at greatly deceiving Americans.

I'm a northener. I had no idea how much bullshit I was taught about the Civil War until 15 years ago.

Once you have a couple fundamental beliefs that you believed just go away, you entirely stop trusting government.

Literally they lie about everything, even when there is no reason to lie.

Anyone have a recommendation for a civil war book? 100 pages.

Just avoid any book that says it was about slavery. That was not the propaganda of the time, because you wouldn't be able to get a bunch of poor white men to go into the military to free what 99% of them that were inferiors to them.

After the Civil War, the same generals of the northern army went to work exterminating Indians. Custer was one of them. He was a brutal man, who regularly raped the women he captured, then killed.

You kind find some good information on the civil war's politics from http://www.ancreport.com/ - just look for "civil war" or "Lincoln", because Dawson (the guy that runs it) is a historian, and he despises Lincoln.

If you really want to know history, I'll warn you, it's depressing. We're all taught happy propaganda about it. As I learned more about WWI and II, it's just like today - we were lied into both. We're lied into every war. WWII is particularly depressing to me, because everything I thought I knew about it was wrong. War is an awful thing.

Reading through this right now:

Also Richard Taylor's autobiography on the war is quite good.
