I've always hated lawns anyway. What if everyone just had a big garden out front instead of a big lawn?

Note that I'm not talking about forcing anyone to do anything. I'm just promoting the idea people should grow more of their own food for more independence.

I made a raised bed of asparagus, now I just have to wait 3 years for them to grow to the point I can eat them. The bed will only get better over the years and they come back bigger every year.

There's reasons people can't farm their whole yard. "Your damn elm tree is blocking my corn's full sun!" for starters.

That's why most will use raised beds, that are in locations that manages to get full sun. Many yards don't have any full sun. With all of the neighbor's trees.
Even if you live in a neighborhood that doesn't have many trees. Your house will cast a shadow on a large section of your yard, depending on the season and the direction your house faces. Back yard in the summer, front yard in the fall/winter. For growers in hotter climates where that time of year is still doable for tomatoes and other crops. So you can't have your garden within 10 to 15 feet of your house.

You need a house with at least a 1/2 acre lot to have access to full sun for a productive garden.

But besides that, that picture can't be real. Those cabbage broccoli and what looks like lettuce. Would scorch that close to the concrete curb and asphalt. They aren't even a raised bed. Also there's a shadow over the neighbors whole front yard, cast by that huge tree next to the house. That house with that huge vaulted entryway. Should also be casting a shadow over most of the front yard.

Actually, that is what freedom looks like under a government that sticks to the basics of protecting property and rights. Under anarchy, that garden would be looted and the house squatted.

A lot of nasty shit comes up off of that road. There was some environment group in the bay area that wanted to make gardens like that to replace the overpass landscaping along the 101 and other places in the bay area.
