I think the spread is probably because of who succeeds him more than anything.

The US through the IMF and World Bank ponied up over an extra $30 billion in fresh loans to Argentina. This is what accounted for the increase in the country's GDP. It was nothing that Milei did.

The price of the 2038 dollar bonds since April 1 have gone nowhere. Even with this extra financing investors are still pricing in the same chance of default.

Pssssssst...if you liked Argentina dollar bonds at 65.7 cents to the dollar, then you gotta like them at 49.3 cents to the dollar. Now they are 14.5% yield above comparable treasuries.

For those of you who liked Milei's promises and invested in Argentina's stock market...well sure you've lost money, but hold firm it can rebound and then just go up like a rocket from there.

So what if the Argentina peso is at a record low ??? Milei has got that IMF and World Bank money that he can use to support the Peso, and he has been. So far last week he used about $1 billion of that to keep the peso from grenading any further. Each trading day an ever increasing amount. His currency reserves should be able to last a few more weeks.

Theoretically, the Argentinian markets can only go to ZERO...theoretically.

The IMF loans is an easily verifiable thing. Can be proven or refuted in a minute.

What we are doing is a swap line. Other nations have them with us. They are used all the time. No taxpayer money involved as this as it is a Federal Reserve facility.

Although initially, this swap line is being done with the ESF, not the Fed. There is probably some internal debate over whether it will be permanent or not. Or because Treasury is sidelining the Fed more until Powell is out.

And this isn't about Millei, really. This is about securing the lithium and shale gas & oil reserves (as big as the oil fields offshore Guyana) in Argentina.

And for that, $20 billion is cheap.
