Judges are not involved except maybe to chair the proceedings.The reporter on this piece should thus be fired for using the words 'convict' and 'conviction' on relation to an impeachment 'trial'. But then, that would mean actual basic journalistic standards exist today.

Charges alleging bribery — oh, the irony — and corruption.On Saturday, after a nine-day trial, the Texas Senate acquitted Paxton on all charges.Here the May 1st, 2023 announcement from Paxton’s office about his new Pharma investigation:Totally unrelated, three weeks later, the Texas house filed impeachment articles on May 24th, 2023, which under Texas law automatically suspended Paxton from office during the proceedings.
