OK, not quite unintelligible, but very different dialects of Irish Gaelic are close to each other because the people have just stayed put in one place for so long. My father's family spoke the Connact dialect of Irish, so I figured that I could attend an Irish language class on Inisheer, which is just off the Galway coast, and learn that dialect. Nope. When I arrived, I found that they speak Munster Irish there (southern). The line runs between Inisheer and Inish Maan, the next island northwest, visible from the shore. And the dialect of Inish Maan is recognizably different from that of the next island up, Inish Mor, even though there are only a few hundred speakers of each.

This map is lazy nonsense. Filipinos are not as dark as Africans. Nor are Indonesians, not even close. Filipinos and Indos are dark relative to Chinese the way Sicilians are 'dark' relative to Northern Europeans.

The Pacific Coast of Peru and Chile? LOL. It's Whiter than White Bread, just big Inca noses. There is a large concentration of Blacks on the Pacific Coast of Columbia, but not in Lima-Callao or La Paz.

Florida is wrong, the Blackest part would be the center part of the state running around Tavares to Gainesville to Tallahassee. Miami is less black than the US average (11% vs. 12-13%)

Another tell is the OK-AR-KS-WY area being "Darker" than Maine or Nebraska. If this map was accurate, the darkest part of the USA would be a crescent that runs from the Lower Mississippi and curves around from Biloxi to Birmingham to Macon to Columbia to Fayetteville.

Also, Ceylon is shown as brown when it should be dark black. I remember a Ceylonese exchange student in high school who was very pretty, but she looked like a European dipped in flat black paint.

That's the weirdest or most striking demographic - people with "white" features (smaller nose, prominent forehead, flatter facial featuures, smaller jaw) having almost black (as in coal black) skin complexion. It's actually quite beautiful.

I watched 'Sinners' on Netflix last night and it exemplifies Hollywood's White Hate. The main protagonists are violent Black gangsters and the White people are all either literal demons or absurdly racist KKK. It is also very poorly constructed, it is a bad film aside from its blatant in-your-face messaging. So of course it is nominated for a record 16 Oscars.

Sian Beilock, the President of Dartmouth, just wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal calling to "re-center higher education on learning rather than political posturing" and to "emphasize equal opportunity, not equal outcomes."

This is disingenuous horseshit. Dartmouth was (and continues to be) one of the more discriminatory institutions I encountered in my research. Since Beilock took over in 2023, Dartmouth College has hired 51 assistant professors, of whom just four are white American men (7.8%). This isn't confined to the humanities, where everyone knows the score -- somehow it manages to span the hard and soft sciences alike.
