India: It’s Worse Than You Think

Most Westerners know nothing about India beyond vague ideas about Hinduism, yoga, gurus, and maybe a dash of Bollywood. To such people, this article will be a rude awakening. ...

I had first returned to India with the idea of improving it, but after 11 years, I realized that India was a sinking ship, with worsening and increasingly shameless corruption, degraded people, and a society that was falling apart. I had never met an honest bureaucrat or politician. I applied to emigrate to Canada and my application was approved in a record three weeks.

I now advise East Asian and Western corporations on investing in India. Most of what I tell them sounds to them exaggerated, unrealistic, and unbelievable. After much dance, drama, and a great deal of lost money, they begin to believe what I tell them. However, this learning is never institutionalized because of a refusal to understand India. This is a form of political correctness, a poison eating away the innards of Western values.

When I was a child growing up in India, I learned that “might makes right.” Power was often abused, with those in control acting as if they had a God-given right to exploit and dominate others. The display of authority could be so extreme that questioning it or expecting those in power to do their duty might lead to retribution. Those in authority seemed to believe that their positions were not for serving others but for personal gain.

People who showed respect appeared to have meekly accepted a lower, subservient position. Kind people had to hide their compassion, for being nice was seen as a weakness.

In India, I have rarely seen someone in authority take the initiative to solve a problem he was responsible for. When I was at university, an underaged boy who worked in the kitchen was raped and sodomized by the janitors. I reported the matter, but not only did no one in authority do what was right — something well within their power — the authorities and fellow students threatened me with severe consequences if I pursued the matter further. Devoid of empathy, they also made fun of the boy and me.

Yes, there is an element of sadism here. There is some degree of pleasure that Indians take in the pain suffered by others. The attitude of the authorities was like that of the high-placed Delhi bureaucrat who told me that his Black Label whiskey tastes so much better because he knows that most Indians can’t afford to drink it.

This confuses Westerners. If they had power, even if they were corrupt, in a situation where there was nothing to gain or lose — no bribes to receive since both parties were poor, and no risk of offending someone well-connected — they would do the right thing and book the alleged rapist. These Indians would do nothing, not even lift a finger, unless there was a reward: money or sex. Their apathy was bottomless.

The article goes on about how incredibly low-trust India is as a society.

True? Any people from India want to opine on this?

That's not true. First of all, they're obviously not all dead. Second, the mass deaths that did occur were from diseases. Those diseases were not deliberately transmitted. The "smallpox blanket" hoax is just that, a hoax:

Or that slavery in the US was some grotesque thing. Hey, I'm gonna buy this thing and beat the shit out of it? Makes total sense. We hear about the 1% that were ass hole plantation owners and Hollywood glorifies it through film.

Fact is they got food and housing for some long hours of work. Quentin Tarantino fucked the image of slavery up the worst with Django Unchained. And Roots or whatever miniseries that was. I'd bet a lot of blacks would like to go back to those days if they're honest. Fed, housed, clothed, medical, etc. Hell I wouldn't mind being a slave.

Or that slavery was even an unusual thing. Every culture on earth had slavery, with no exceptions, until white people ended slavery globally in all of their colonies.

Rumors are that it continues today in the really wacko Muslim countries though, like in Saudi Arabia, where slavery was made illegal only in the 1960's. Muslim clerics keep insisting even now that slavery is allowed by Muslim law, and that Muslim law supercedes all secular law.

Treasonous Hindus belong to India not 🇺🇸.
In India 🇺🇸 citizens will be attacked for eating beef, staple food here.

My nextdoor neighbor is from India - she converted to Christianity. She says it's true - Hindus will beat you up if they know you eat beef. They worship the cow/bull. People in Hindu areas who want beef have to go to certain places and enter back rooms to buy beef.

She was probably lower-caste (I don't ask but I have seen "The Bandit Queen" movie) but is a highly intelligent woman - Christianity offered her a way out.
146   Patrick   2025 Mar 5, 6:01pm

Thanks, I'm interested in "The Bandit Queen" movie now.
147   stereotomy   2025 Mar 5, 6:17pm

It might be out of print on Blu Ray, but you might be able to find a used copy somewhere. Warning - it's pretty violent, not explicitly sexually graphic, but you know exactly what's being done to her. I'll leave it at that.
148   Patrick   2025 Mar 5, 9:11pm

I just found it free online and watched it, skipping some bits:

https://moviesjoy.skin/moviesjoy-movie/bandit-queen-CFUmXq

It's very well done. The bandits are similar to a guerrilla army. All such groups probably arise in similar circumstances.

Are women really treated that badly in India?

The caste system really sucks. I can see how people would want to leave it by becoming Christian or Muslim.
149   KgK one   2025 Mar 6, 8:05am

Muslims will kill you if you mix pork in 44 countries.

There were 650 million people at kumbh mela festival , all casts, sikhs, women. Anyone can study any topic n do any job. They have 50% quota for lower cast so they get in colleges n jobs at much lower test scores. Financially it's gotten better to be lower cast. What's bad is lot of upper cast has to leave country to get access to colleges. So most of politician n ceos are upper cast people who are creating value in usa instead of India.

Cast used to just job type. It was enhanced by British to divide n conquer. Usually anyone who is paid less or lower cast are easy to manipulate into fighting agaist people in power. What's odd is even Christians/ sikh in india who are upper cast converts don't allow lower cast people in.

Us has cast system , rich - kings, prists are politicians, businessmen , n worker bees white n blue collar.

Hinduism thinks it's designed for good of all people so it doesn't convert , no real benefit to convert. While Islam n others specifically fight for their own. They also get 72 virgins n Crown etc to convert.

The lower the caste, the greater the abuse. It greatly varies depending on caste. I'm not familiar enough with the culture to know more than that.

India has a very dangerous sex disparity between men and women. In some rural regions it's like 60/40 men/women. Sex selective abortion is nominally illegal in India, but is practiced widely. In the poorer regions, it's done the old fashioned way - infanticide. The end result is too many men and too few women, and the violent sexual powder keg that creates.

It is always funny when white people talk about caste system.

Some indian guy told me he had to hide in a car while travelling through some southern states in 80s. Do i call all white people are racist.

Even now an indian kid i know who lives in NC said white kids don't even acknowledge him. The only friendly kids are black kids.

The caste system in Hindus is class system. Which is prevelant all over the world.

One can see this class system in US too.

It's not the same, because in the US anyone can move up or down regardless of race or origin, and it happens all the time. Oprah is a billionaire, and there are millions of poor whites.
159   KgK one   2025 Mar 8, 2:03pm

President of India is of lowest cast. Lot of govt workers are lowest cast. Anyone india can study anything and get job. Given 50% quota for lower class, they can get in schools at much lower grades. There might be pockets but mostly cast is used just to get lot of minority benefits. British enhanced this system to divide n conquer.

Us has lots of race , gender class system also.
Blacks were slaves n used for manual jobs. Natives were considered uncivilized so their land taken away. Even now they represent small amount of good jobs, politics etc. Women were not allowed to go to school, etc. Minorits had hard time becoming management. Some this exist still. US does't call it cast but same intent.

Jews who run media 90%/ banks n money/ large tech companies.... are top class.

How do you know that lower "caste" people cant move up? And what do you mean by move up?

And you also know that there are no millions of poor "upper" caste people?

Do Catholics can move up to Protestants!

A Catholic who declares himself Protestant would be instantly accepted by the Protestants. The reverse is also true.

Not so with caste. Anyone who declares himself to belong to a higher caste would be rejected by that caste.
165   Patrick   2025 Mar 9, 1:21pm

A better analogy might be blacks declaring themselves to be Jewish. This happens from time to time, but those blacks are not accepted by Jews because Judaism is more about ethnic and biological belonging than about religion.
167   KgK one   2025 Mar 9, 7:10pm

According to historical records, approximately 1.5 million Indian soldiers served in World War I, while around 2.5 million Indian soldiers served in World War II, both fighting under the British Empire as part of the British Indian Army.

Not necessarily true.
I heard few stories from a old person who grew up in LA city suburbs, when he was young back in 60s
his family never bother to interact with Catholics as kind of untouchables!
After the freeways have been build, things changed particularly with later generations.
Move "up" "down" did not really work back them!
I know personally few Mormons who do not mingle with other Christian casts/denomination!

Imagine politicians and foreign religion enters and dictates that "lower" casts/denomination get a free
education, free gov "jobs", time based promotions, regular gifts from gov banks in the forms of loans;)
even free ATM cards for some categories for monthly payments from gov! (one can search and verify)
Most of them ready to stay at the same class and complain even more!
That is what you see in India while Abrahamic religions and their fake press talk about stereotype casts
as part of the divide and rule policy.
This is not any different from people associate racism with skin color!

What I have learned from this thread:
1. There is no caste system in India
2. If there is, it was imposed by the British
3. But if it persists today, it’s analogous to Protestants converting to Catholicism
4. But sometimes it’s the same as segregation against blacks.
5. There is no rape problem in India
6. If there is, it’s done by Muslims (or Hindoos, depending on the poster’s bias)

Summation: Get your shit together, Indians. Own your problems in order to solve them. Obfuscation gets you nowhere.

I mean that the caste system does not allow anyone to move from a lower to an upper caste. Not sure about the other direction.

This greatly reduces human freedom to succeed in life based on one's own efforts.

There is town in NJ where they live like 1800s, if your were black smith, or carpenter, farmer etc , your kids learned this with you when you were small. Same in india, lot of farmers, trades etc taught their kids trade, and so you did same job as your parent. Now with 1100 universities in india ( highest of any country) , anyone can do any major n get that job. Anyone can join army, not just khatiya. You become khatriya once u fight. I have seen lot of mba n well educated people sell tea n snacks to make more money. It's more like what
Kind of skills you have or develop.

Genetically warriors kids has more muscles than n business guy kids so most likely they will be also warriors.

If you take cast as job type, then everyone has option. India also has jungle dwellers etc. school is free but cant do much if farmers, jungle dwellers don't want to attend n get better paying jobs.
