A lot of employers are going to be seriously butt hurt.

Mostly Apple, Google, and Facebook execs.

They will have to pay Americans American wages.

Tech was never Trump's friend in the least, so he loses nothing by this, and gains votes.
82   Booger   2020 Jul 16, 5:45pm

The whole point of this shit is to ensure wages and working conditions in the US revert to the global mean. People like Bezos and Gates think it's racist that Americans have better quality of life than Indians or Chinese people do, and so they see this as social justice (that just so happens to make them richer and further cements their control).
83   clambo   2020 Jul 16, 6:28pm

Trump understands that American workers are being displaced by foreigners, which benefits those who hire them (Hewlett Packard) and nobody else.

The law of supply and demand applies to labor.

Even my friend who is a high school graduate understands this. She knows that all of the Haitians at her workplace keep her wages down.

The whole foreign worker visa program is bullshit, it’s abused and it hurts Americans.

Don't forget Disney, who should be prosecuted for blatant HxB abuse. Trump's reining in of the HxB will hurt Disney, which is why Disney owned ABC starts each Nights News broadcast with a 10 min anti-Trump rant.
85   FortWayneHatesRealtors   2020 Jul 17, 7:56am

Corporations want cheap labor. They’ll fuck Americans to get it. Cheap foreigners is an easy way to get that.
86   KgK one   2020 Jul 17, 9:39am

Any one know what H1 are being requested by category?

If they are paying ~20k n processing work, that tells me job is in demand.

People can target education and aim for those jobs.

Yes, and the same mechanism explains most of the hate for Trump in the media.

Corporations were making bank by stiffing working wages in all kinds of ways.

Now Trump is interfering with that, giving the wages back to the workers, which helps not only them, but helps the economy reach new record heights.

What we had was corrupt capital, mostly Democrats but also many Republicans, stealing from workers and the economy. Trillions of dollars.

They are angry that they cannot continue to suck worker blood under Trump. Worker blood must be delicious.

Perot made dis-incentivizing offshoring a part of his platform when it came to NAFTA. Apparently he and his family got death threats and he dropped out of the race. I don't see this as a coincidence. There is a LOT of money on the line here for large corporations, and they'll do anything to keep it flowing, even if it means destroying the country.

Not just wages are going down: so is whatever is left of American culture.

The moratorium only applies to issuing new H1Bs, not people who currently are here and working under an existing H1B. So I don't see the logic you describe in what is going on with your company as it pertains to H1Bs.

H1B is good for 3 years with possible extension for another 3. At any moment there are shitload of people nearing the end of their visa and needing a new one.

Extending visas is not the same as issuing new ones to people in India. That is what is being stopped.

You can extend it only once (unless GC app is filed). It means that many H1-B workers have an expiration date and will have to be replaced by fresh H1-B meat. Which has just became impossible.

A group of Senate Republicans has joined Senate Democrats to demand President Joe Biden import more H-2B foreign visa workers to take working-class, blue-collar American jobs.

On Monday, 17 Senate Republicans signed a letter with 17 Senate Democrats that urges Biden to “release the maximum allowable number of additional” H-2B foreign visa workers to inflate the labor market despite more than 12 million Americans remaining jobless, though all want full-time employment.

The senators also asked Biden to speed up the process so U.S. employers could get foreign visa workers quicker into blue-collar American jobs, often in construction, landscaping, the tourism industry, and other occupations.

“Without meaningful H-2B cap relief, many seasonal businesses will be forced to scale back operations, cancel or default on contracts, lay off full-time U.S. workers, and, in some cases, close operations completely,” the senators wrote.

The 17 Republicans who signed the letter are:

Kevin Cramer (R-ND)
Mike Rounds (R-SD)
Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
James Risch (R-ID)
Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)
Roy Blunt (R-MO)
Cynthia Lummis (R-WY)
John Cornyn (R-TX)
Mike Crapo (R-ID)
John Thune (R-SD)
Susan Collins (R-ME)
Pat Toomey (R-PA)
Roger Wicker (R-MS)
Jerry Moran (R-KS)
Rand Paul (R-KY)
John Barrasso (R-WY)
Tim Scott (R-SC)

WTF are they doing?
93   clambo   2022 Feb 16, 1:32pm

H1B visa workers are scabs, taking jobs away from American workers.
Scumbag overlords hire them to save money and fuck over American workers.
The system sucks, is abused, and all H1B workers should be sent to their respective hellhole TFCs (totally fucked countries).

bowing to their corporate overlords. Currently labor has some negotiating powers, but after importing a few hundred thousand workers it will go away.

Yes, tech salaries have been soaring these past four months.

I have direct hires (senior engineers) who make as much as I did as a Staff engineer a few months ago.

I see the same in biotech and pharma. Easier to get jobs and pay is going up.
96   KgK one   2022 Feb 16, 1:41pm

Issue is they can't find Americans to do these low paying jobs.
Instead of illegals who didn't go thru health n background check, these might be better option.

Americans don't want to do them, specially with all the money u can make thru welfare. Why the f would u work n make less money than, get more thru welfare.

Yep can confirm as lead that lead or very senior techs are closing in on their managers salaries. Supply and demand.

These companies arguing for H1B should be the first to decry DEI, as it dilutes the domestic talent pool. They’re not however, which tells you the motives are more complex.

Musk seems naive on that front, being both opposed to DEI and in favor of expanded H1Bs. How can we tell what the domestic talent is when white men need not apply? Remove DEI, reinstate basic entrance testing (civil service exams, even), and then see what hiring needs remain.

Musk needed to experience Biden’s weaponized bureaucracy (post-Twitter purchase) before he saw through Democrats. Perhaps this too is a learning curve — that you don’t need endless H1Bs if you end discrimination against non-Hispanic whites (and East Asians, to a lesser degree).
109   mell   2024 Dec 26, 4:15pm

Agree with KD here, I think H1Bs should be extremely limited if exist at all.
110   FreeAmericanDOP   2024 Dec 26, 4:37pm

I've been fucking raging about this all day.

The Big Tech Fucks and their HR Karen Shrews try to conflate O-1 visas, or Einstein visas, with H1Bs.

H1Bs are responsible for Starliner and 737Max "Code". The now ex-CEO of Boeing wrote a memo blasting old White Males for being too finicky about safety and quality, and that they were costing the company tons of money and sang praises of the H1Bs they had doing CAD and Coding.

"HURR DURR, $40K for an accountant is not cheap labor secret doors".

FFS, $40k is cheap for a Gal Friday without any kind of Degree, just some Quickbooks knowledge.

My friend made $60k in 2000 the first year after graduating from a mid-tier school in Accounting... a quarter century ago.

My starting tech salary (h1!) almost 25 years ago inflation adjusted was 140k in today's greenbacks! Shows you how the American economy has gone down the shitter, incl. tech. If you haven't played other avenues such as the stock market or RE on the side, or gunned early for that useless gravy train c suite position, collecting as much "bonus" while bullshiting as much as possible, you lost out.
115   clambo   2024 Dec 26, 6:55pm

The H1-B visa program is how the slave masters can legally hire foreigners to replace more expensive (and capable) American workers.
It's entirely bullshit.

A good friend of mine was working at Compaq during the internet boom; after Compaq was acquired by/merged with HP, Carly Fiorina fired him and a bunch of other Americans who were replaced by guys from India with H1-B visas.

My friend was pissed that he had to train the motherfuckers before he left.
He had at that time 1. mortgage 2. two children about to enter college.

I've heard all kinds of bullshit about how brilliant Asian guys are; well I don't know any Americans who willingly drink piss and think cows are people, nor believe seahorses and shark fins are medicinal.
116   FreeAmericanDOP   2024 Dec 26, 6:56pm

Asians work hard, but they're not innovative except ass kissing, they can charm Oscar the Grouch. When not putting metal into the microwave.

I had to find and fix Indian contractor code that was causing severe problems with performance on our e-commerce site.

Find one function used a lot. Was nested looping. Going through all the users photo albums and then the subalbums and then the photos of each. Then setting some other object with ids or some property that matched whatever they were looking for, etc.

Never mind that they could have used more efficient coding patterns to do that. What I caught was that they didn't end the nested loops once they found what they were looking for. It was like finding the fucking needle in the haystack, passing it off to whatever but still continung counting until that very last straw was done anyway.

And it was for one specific photo at a time.

I shit you not.
