For the past 20yrs, I've listened anti-GW cultists gloat "This is the last nail for this fad", "this is the end of this scam", "The end is nigh for the carbon credit extortion".

For the last 12 years I have been hearing from the GW alarmists that if we do nothing the temperature will spike, wetbulb death will be rampant, and Manhattan and Florida will be underwater.

Btw, if cold air comes from the pole... then it must be that warm air from the south moves north toward the pole on the other side, right?

Are you trying to say that melting poles are causing record cold?

I'd argue that science here is not settled by any stretch of imagination. As none of us are climate scientists, arguing here is rather pointless.
Having said that, using less of fossil fuels is good in any case - less money to Saudi Barbaria, Russia, and Ajatollahs; less pollution; less ocean acidification.

Right, I'm not arguing renewable energies are bad, we should have a good mix of all feasible energies and they should compete against each other with their pros and cons. The issue is the idiotic - or probably calculated by the government oppressionists and scientist sucking a their teeth - fixation on CO2, which is the least of the problem - if a problem at all - amongst all the real pollutants.
62   Tenpoundbass   2019 Nov 12, 12:49pm

LOOK! All I want Global warming to do, is clean my shoes and mow my Lawn, and that's IT!!!

We do not really know CO2 is a problem re. warming. It might be, in this case we are screwed unless we undertake something. It might not be, in this case we waste a lot of money on nothing. A solution would be massive expansion of nucular power - that would give us best of both - no CO2 emissions (or much lowered), and not much increase in energy price, or even decrease from what we have now. Unfortunately idiot Thurnberg/green types with no scientific or economic education want solar power in Greenland etc.
Agree that current argument wrt CO2 is highly biased and skewed towards those who argue that we are in a crisis. I suspect it is something more sinister than scientists sucking on govt' teat - who is the one deciding what to fund? There must be some group with economic interests behind all this "green" bullshit.

Right.
Because we know how much fossil fuels we burn, we measure the CO2 increasing, we know it's a greenhouse gas, we measure out going radiation reflected by it back to the floor, we measure the temperature increasing, we measure the loss of sea ice.... But nothing is settled... Maybe the heat will miraculously go away through some yet undetermined mechanism. So why panic? Look: cold whether in the US. Let's wait 100 yrs doing nothing and see where we are then.

Plus of course we'll all be dead, so who cares?

Right. Maybe it just stopped for some reason.

I am not a climate scientist, but Richard Siegmund Lindzen, who is NAS member and MIT prof disagrees with this assessment. As I understand, major influence of warming comes from water vapor feedback from warming, not from CO2 itself, and how much of the feedback is included, and if it is positive or negative, makes a YUUGE difference.
In any case, question is what to do. I agree that NOT doing anything is a suicidal approach - even if we have 30% possibility that current models are real, we are in deep crap. Furthermore, ocean acidification is a measurable fact. Solar panels on North pole, tax on energy to make poor people even more poor and rich even more rich, and electric cars powered by coal-produced electricity are not the solutions.

69   theoakman   2019 Nov 12, 2:00pm

You have about a 0% chance of any of the models being real. That's the way models of complex systems work. They don't.

Why the straw-man?

I don't think even the biggest Climate Change skeptics think we should "do nothing" over the next 100 years.

We are just not buying into the Cultist Marxist bullshit that we have to dramatically change our entire civilization at great cost and pain in the next 10 years to save humanity.

If the Climate Cult was less hyperbolic and more honest about the pain and costs we would have to bare in the short-term, they might have more credibility.

Why does your chart have 2019 as the warmest year ever even though we do not yet have the measurements?
73   fdhfoiehfeoi   2019 Nov 12, 2:56pm

Heraclitusstudent says
Yeah... let's wrap it with seemingly practical anecdotal evidence (even if it obviously make no sense whatsoever).
Plus anyway.... it goes against my other personal beliefs. And the other cultists are with me.
It was sooo easy to rationalize away....

Please explain to me what about feeling consistently cold for 20 years every winter is subjective. I'm just a real person telling you how the weather really feels every year. I don't have to doctor stats, fudge number, or push an agenda. I just have to stop-feeling-fucking-cold.

The problem with globalists is the same problem with socialists, they don't give fuck about the individual pointing out their ideals don't match up with people's reality.
74   Shaman   2019 Nov 12, 3:03pm

This is the best i can find for the USA carbon use.

And keep in mind it’s per capita! China’s actual carbon use is twice all of the USA. That little bubble is actually much larger than ours.
For some reason there aren’t any charts I found that go past 2014. Yet a lot of renewables have been added in the past five years. Could there be a coverup? Perhaps our carbon use has dropped more significantly than predicted.

I saw a meme about a week and a half ago saying to brace ourselves for the idiot climate change deniers when the arctic blast occurs now. Nevermind that it's been unseasonably warm for weeks - without those of us in the reality based world even trying to say it was becasue of global warming.

It's been decades since Chicago had the kind of winters we had when I was a kid. Back then there were people that would flood their back yards to make an ice skating rink, that would last for several weeks.

No kidding. Every fucking hurricane, rain storm, cold snap, heat wave, "polar vortex" and blizzard is blamed on climate change. The level of projection coming from the political left never ceases to amaze me.

And I'd say thank goodness! Most people hate the cold and it's much more threatening to life and growth than heat.
80   mell   2019 Nov 13, 10:45am

"For the year-to-date, the contiguous U.S. temperature was 55.5°F, 0.5°F above average, and ranked in the warmest third of the January–October record."

Now add in a relatively cold winter that is currently expected and has started with the current Arctic blast and the year will likely end somewhere between 3rd and 5th place. For the US, so where's the hockey stick? It's NOT because the warming trend HAS STOPPED.

Ohhhh, the weather!

Let's have the "definition of climate" debate!

The dictionary defines climate as the composite or generally prevailing weather conditions of a region, as temperature, air pressure, humidity, precipitation, sunshine, cloudiness, and winds, throughout the year, averaged over a series of years.

So climate is the history of weather.

Like the weather the climate is changing all of the time. We have gone through ice ages and warm periods much warmer than now. During the warm periods life prospered. During the cold periods life suffered. Where would you rather live in an arctic tundra or a tropical rainforest?

It's fucking cold in Arizona. I guess not even the desert can help GW. I'll have to move to the islands to keep Global Warming from freezing my ass four months of the year.

this is live CO2 emission map: https://www.electricitymap.org/ranking

Germany with its "renewable" and "green" electricity production emits tons more CO2 than France, which uses nucular. Green energy is bad for environment....

Maybe we should aggressively increase C02 output. Seriously.

Volcanos going off all over the world in Indonesia, Iceland, Sicily, Central America. The stuff in the atmosphere is going to cause cooling for a few years.

The net effect of this false premise may well be that environmentalists and main-stream public scientists will look like fools by the end of this decade.

Political types, whether they be office holders or "scientists" or "journalists," do not care if their lies are discovered after they are elected or have cashed the checks. They just expect forgiveness and move on to the next lie.
96   clambo   2021 Mar 4, 1:13pm

At CERN they proved that cosmic rays can cause cloud formation.
This was huge, clouds of course vastly affect earth temperatures, as you have no doubt experienced at the beach.
The significance is that cosmic rays emitted by the sun vary.
People always think that the sun is like a giant lightbulb with a constant energy output.
But, it’s not.
I have an old National Geographic from the 70’s about the Northern Hemisphere Cooling which caused drought in the Southern Hemisphere, and grain harvest failure and potential world starvation.

Interesting that nobody talks about the potential huge grain harvests from Canada and Russia if the earth ever warms up. Today vast areas of earth are too cold to farm.

Greenland, too. Greenland was arable during the Medieval Warm Period when the Vikings settled the coasts. This was before cooling glaciered the land and drove them out.

The previous sun cycles caused 'global warming' on Mars and Jupiter's moons also. And temps are dropping there also. But there aren't any SUVs on Mars to blame, so the Greenies ignored that. Can't admit that AGW is total bullshit.

They also saw this writing on the wall and so changed their tune to 'climate change', which can mean anything. Guy pissed out of his window in downtown SF and you get the spray down on the sidewalk, that is technically climate change too!

Green was COVID 1.0 - an excuse to justify massive changes to empower centralized control over people's lives. Scratch the surface and I think most will realize the Green/COVID shit is an excuse for the control, which is really what they want.
