Under Trump don't expect any further student Loan forgiveness. What you should expect is for Trump to approach this as a businessman. The Democrats sold the country that the government would earn money on its loan portfolio to students. Well, it hasn't worked out that way and with the previous Democrat president, there was talk of wide-spread debt forgiveness. To make sure this cannot happen in the future expect Trump to sell off the government's student loan portfolio to private parties.
This curtails the ability of any future Democrat president to simply cancel debt owed because the debt would be held by private institutions. With an outstanding balance of about $1.6 trillion...well that's just a shit ton of money. The proceeds from the sale of this portfolio could be used to pay down the US debt, make diversified investments under our (not yet formalized) sovereign wealth fund (thus expanding on the investments Trump has negotiated with foreign governments into US based enterprises), or for other government sponsored activities.
That is a crapload of economic activity without raising taxes or printing money at all.
Expect to hear more of this in the news over the upcoming months.
The government should not even facilitate money lending with loan guarantees. That just creates more debt, makes college and housing more expensive, and puts the risk of default on taxpayers.
