It may be true that with Trump at the helm they wouldn't be able to do shit. But with a competant President at the helm and the Pandemic team in place, things would probably have unfolded much much differently.

We could have let less in to the country and if need be we could have slowed it down sooner. I believe the actions taken now are correct, which are designed to slow it down enough (not necessarily lower the total numbers that much) so that our health care system doesn't find itself doing triage like they are in Italy.

We could have planned like Hong Kong and others starting back at the end of the year after seeing what was happening in China, and then a competant (and adult) President would have listened to the advice his team more than the ramblings of cognitively challenged conspiracy theorists. Or if not that well, at least better than what we ended up doing.

In the end, Trump did wake up - meaning that it is still sometimes possible for the competant people can get through to him.

Problem I have is regardless of how good the economy is (well was) people don't do well without cash. Don't do well sitting around if they're not working. Basically they kill themselves. We're already reaching out to people as IL just announced closure of restaurants and bars. Have a few family and friends in the industry. It's going to be a bloodbath.

The crime rate in Chicago is going to surge over the coming weeks. This is such a failure to save the weak that we're going to kill more healthy people. I was convinced we'd recover quickly. This might take years. Wouldn't be surprised if the stock market doesn't open tomorrow.

It's interesting how the opinions differ from not done enough to done way too much so that it causes more harm. The point is valid depending on whether you want to favor the young or the old or find a decent balance. I do think closing restaurants goes a bit too far, but each state can decide that on their own unless a federal ban kicks in.

My wife and I are likely to take in her sister and kid because of this. No chance in hell she's paying rent April 1st.... She has her flaws, but there's zero reason in my opinion to close down in house dining here. She waitresses and she's fucked at this point. Landlord is fucked. Banks are fucked. Dominos are falling because of people with bum lungs.

Many restaurants themselves won't make it here. Thin margin business if you can even get it off the ground and successful in the first place. Fuck loads of people in IL are going to need help and fast. We're creating a worse crisis in my opinion by the reaction. Pisses me off.

Trump hugely fucked up the European travel ban as well. It resulted in a mass of people trying to get back here like I predicted. O'hare now has a flood of people that almost certainly have the virus. They should have stayed in place. So now I'm in a state that is likely to bust out reported case wise. I disagree with this. In FREE! market, we should not have fucking FED bailing out incompetent banks/investors/etc. They may or may not turn profit, but that is not the most important issue. You're one of the few advocating for the young then. Politicians have a lot of pressure so there's no way you can go lone wolf.
