I saw a quote from a book "millionaire next door" the other day. It was published in 1996, 3.5% owned half the wealth...isn't that number 1% now? Instead of gloating about the value of assets, you should meditate on how the value of homes is based on competition for increasingly rare available units, whereas the job market is based on competition for an increasingly fragile and low income. It's diverging that way.

As for pensions, their only value is the time the working age population can afford to dedicate to the support of old people.
