It's crazy that the top 50% pay 97% of the taxes. We really need to get back to historical norms of the 1950's and 1960's where the top 50% payed 95% of the taxes. It's outrageous how much more the top 50% pay today.

That's a bit misleading. The federal government charges Social Security and Medicare taxes, subscriber line fees, import duties, excise taxes, estate taxes, etc. Also, with two Presidents in a row doubling the national debt, the living owe more and more every year.

The personal income tax should probably be replaced with pollution fees, other taxes (land value, estates, corporate income), import duties, excises on property insurance, etc. Personal taxes become inevitably too invasive, but that's now apparently the point: Total Information Awareness thinly disguised as revenue.

Historically, rates haven't been this low since almost just prior to the great depression. (Gosh what was that whole Depressioney thing caused by again?)

So while the "rich" do pay most of the tax, they are paying FAR LESS than historical norms. The middle is paying heavily and shrinking. Income inequality has skyrocketed. Less brackets and progressive stratification of the tax system as well. We can make it far simpler and far more progressive than it is.

Right well, I can agree with some of this, but it would have to come with several addenda. One is assistance for paying for medical school for kids of not-wealthy families. Medical school debt is the greatest impediment to cheaper healthcare because it puts doctors in a corner of having to work for big healthcare corps which overcharge for services. It's one of the major reasons Innever applied to medical school, despite having excellent graduating qualifications including a 33 on my MCAT. Going another 200k into debt was just really scary. If you want doctors in your socialist paradise, you can't toss them to the capitalist wolves.
