Seemed a little testy on that one, Nomo. But I guess I don't understand Mello Roos; isn't it a way around Prop 13 in order to pay for stuff? Is it tax deductible (like property taxes)? And is it charged across a broad area (every house in the area charged at same rate), or is it charged by the house?

$200-$500 per month, on top of everything else, seems excessive to me.

I understand the purpose of Mello Roos. I was just curious if anyone could honestly justify paying it. Or if it would be smarter to "buy an older property where the infrastructure was paid for by previous owners."

Nomo banned because he disagrees with you and takes exception to your posts? It's called free speech, and he's certainly not offensive like other posters. He & I have disagreed many times - and I've never met him - but demanding that he be banned because of an off handed comment is silly. Just ignore it if you don't like it.

I've found that it's better to have a happy icon, such as a puppy or a beloved fictional figure, rather than a controversial political figure. I'm not sure why some people don't realize that everything isn't about partisan politics.

Mello Roos are essentially Georgist in nature and I approve of them 100%.

You want roads and sewer to your land, pay the man. In reducing the "buying power" of the buyer it really stops landowners from getting services of great value for free, and keeps land values in line with true affordability and the actual economic value of the property, not the bubble value detached from the cost of the services the users of the property consume.

Conservatives should understand this.

How conservatives can idolize Nixon, a CiC who threw away the sacrifices of three million servicemen in SE Asia by palling around with Mao is really beyond me, btw.
