Politicians, bankers and Wall st execs should be added to the list. They serve the country like teachers/EMTs/cops/firefighters.

Kind of a weird program when those public servants are getting pink-slipped and furloughed...

The house in walnut creek is $635k. What would you do to save $317,500?
if i was a teacher/emt/cop/firefighter, i'd be all over this. You can sell it 3 years later for full price.

It hardly seems necessary to give perks to cops & firefighters when there are a 1000 applicants for each job opening.
As for school teachers, why not give those subsidies monies to charter schools which who will actually hire new teachers.

Gotta love the thinking here ... let's solve the communities problems by paying one of our public service people lots of money and placing them in there. Who makes these laws!!

Yea, lets give them the BEST HEALTH CARE, and RETIREMENT, and HOLIDAYS, and now why not 1/2 off hell, make it tax free, What if true is a 100% bull shit, yea these people are good, but they already are OVER COMPENSATED and have the best retirement plans, ever... plus every god damn holiday off, I am been eating what I kill my whole 25 years in work force 100% commission if I did not perform I did not get paid, and I like millions of other people have to work holidays, and long hours.... so yea 1/2 off sounds like BS to me.

Sounds like you picked the wrong career choice my friend. But, I don't think cops and firefighters get every holiday off either..

Hmmm, I spent 6 Thanksgiving celebrations and Christmas over the last decade in the middle east. It is all volunteer, so come on over. We like hard working people who are willing to sacrifice everything.

Anyways, I look at some of these offers with suspicion. Are you just trying to dump this housing and put some sort of positive PR spin on it at the expense of our heros?

I'm sure right-thinking people would agree we gotta squish down the workers until they have no benefits and show proper gratitude. Naturally this should include removing all special benefits for military. You want healthcare or a home loan, fine get in line behind every other Schmoe.

Well what if we all went to work for the City or Government at any capacity solely because of the special citizen treatment?

Look you can either Justify a government worker's position or you can't. There is no "Justification" for any government worker getting preferential treatment over tax back assets or any service or treatment. The Veterans getting health care and loan perks that a whole different matter. I can work in plenty of private sector jobs and get the same benefits, even by my own devices one can swing health care and landing loans with good terms.

Where this is different, there is it would be illegal for a private bank to discriminate against other bidders and give me preferential treatment and sell me a house half price, just because I was in some club.

You guys are still Liberals right? and not full blown out right fascist pig Nazis right??

This is some repugnant Animal Farm shit here!

It's like we fear that they will all quit and leave us if we don't buy them things. Why do people take these jobs in the first place? This is emotional and unsustainable.

Why would you want some crappy, low-paying government job? Except at the lowest level positions such as landscaping and janitorial work, wages and benefits are almost always much better in the private sector.
If you’re jealous of some highly paid street sweeper, city water worker, or janitor, you should consider setting your sights a bit higher.
Oh, but there’s that pesky drug test. That rules Tenpoundbass out for almost *any* well-paying job.

What are you mumbling about? Where did I say I wanted a lowly Government job? I said the notion of giving Employees special consideration is Fascist, and will further undo you Progresso, neo Goosestepped types.

I'll piss in a Cup if you drink it? Though to be honest with you, there's not a job I would want that I couldn't get.

Ever hear of UrineLuck?

It works for many of my colleagues, I haven't tried it, as I use things like "They require a urine test" and "they do back ground checks" as a filter to the type of Assholes in the type of environment, I would never subject my self to.

I feel so damn sorry most of America the sheer bullshit, people will put up with for a pay check, is astounding. It's like people have become mindless automatons that will drop their pants, bend over and touch their toes at the sound of the next bell.

It wouldn't have hurt to summarize what the program is:

It is an REO sale with 50% of *appraised* value as a conditional sales price, and a forgivable-after-3-years "silent" (0 interest) 50% 2nd mortgage for the remainder of the appraised price. Basically it is a house with a 50% discount on the appraised value, if you keep it for three years.

Personally, I think police and fire officers are so overpaid that this program is an insult to regular hard-working people. And I wonder why I, the taxpayer, should subsidize them even more. Teachers, *maybe*, police, no way.

Plus what Aribas said about fraud. This is just a big giveaway that hurts the taxpayer.

Addendum:

The program should be for teachers only, and 10 years vesting on the giveaway an a 3 year cliff on the first 30%. That would be more reasonable.

In general, since HUD already has a loss on the house, why compound the loses by adding further giveaways?
