After reading Patrick's plea for financial support it got me to thinking of ways Patrick can make money from his website. It most likely will never be an income vehicle for Patrick to retire on, even most Porn sites do not make significant amount of money and barely break even.

Banner advertising is one way to make money and while Patrick stated he didn't want advertisers that conflicted with his message, I would assume there would be a way to control who advertised on your website. If there wasn't a way to control your advertising content, there would be an endless stream of porn advertisements that would be inappropriate for the audience the web site to trying to appeal to. (think of porn banner ads on Children websites)

Book Sales, Patrick could sell his book on the website and other portals. But wait Patrick doesn't have a book? Well he should write one, the material for the book can be drawn directly from this website. He has a great outline for it with the "It's A Terrible Time To Buy An Expensive House -- Why?" essay. Drawing on information from this site and other sources he can expend on the idea of when is it a good time to buy a house. he needs a catchy title like, "When to buy a house during this housing crash" or something along those lines. He has more than enough credibility with interviews, news stories and speaking engagements. What Random house will not publish his book? Sell it as an Ebook, Amazon.com is selling Ebook content on there website for Kindle readers, lots of unknown authors on there.

On that note, the Amazon.com Kindle Ebook also sell news feeds subscriptions, such as blogs or articles. Patrick could charge a nominal fee for housing market news and info to thousands of kindle users. So long as there is nothing directly quoted from the stories he has links to, he could draw on the news stories listed there to get article topics and content. It doesn't have to be a daily thing, a weekly subscription service would be sufficient.

Get your Patrick.net Hat, Coffee cup or T-shirt from our Patrick.net gift shop. he already has a great logo.

How about making a housing crash board game... similar to what R. Kiyosaki sells teaching finance and cash flow. Learn how to avoid getting yourself in debt by buying property at the wrong time!

A Kool Aid pitcher with holes in the bottom of it and with the Patrick.Net logo on it. It would come with a set of 6 tumblers (w/holes in the bottom too) with common REturd phrases wrote on the tumblers like "... priced out forever..." "...it only goes up..." and a few other good ones. On the bottoms of all of the pieces should be the words, "punching holes in the RE industry lies - Patrick.Net". The idea is: it is impossible to drink the Kool Aid - thanks to Patrick.Net

How's that?

The problem with many of the suggestions is that patrick needs money now, not when he writes a book. Those suckers take time, lots of time. many of these ideas mean laying out money on something that he'll have to wait a while to be paid for - (yes, bad grammar there) - and he needs $ now.

I shall add my $$ this weekend, and hope that ya'll will do the same. He's given me countless hours of fun and snark as well as info I never would have known. I don't know whether I would have ATM'd my house without him, but I certainly have thought twice since he created this site.

I am thinking we need a short term plan for now (like donating) and a longer term plan for helping to keep him afloat. (Clearly he is a very smart grown man, I don't mean to sound too planful here, but I am just saying.) Yes, those of us who use and enjoy this should donate. I agree, I get countless hours of fun and learning here. I have sent many links to friends who were about to make terrible home purchases. I have benefited from this. I have donated some and will likely do so again.

I actually am putting my $ where my mouth is - I'm gonna put my Nursing Home Survival Guide for sale on Patrick's site and split the proceeds with him. Stay tuned.

That's actually a pretty clever idea.

Sounds good to me, not sure if many would play it.... since so many lived it.
