Ive been reading some articles about the US government pulling foreclosed homes off the market, fixing them up, and renting them out.... Basically becoming a giant property management company... Would this have any effect on home prices... Or would it just lower rents across the board with more competition from the govt?

Paying the govt rent checks and taxes....

The Federal Housing Autocracy

How will this play out, existing home owners, or future ones for that matter? Will the Federal Government pay the same taxes as everyone else? They will bring stress to market values, by the clientele they are inclined to rent to? Will this be an extension of Section 8, or will they rent out for market prices, to those that can meet those prices?

I see a huge squeeze on the home owners out of this, They will be burdened with the extra expenses this will create, schools, police, home prices going down. While the Government will no doubt work some federal grant deal for the Cities. Like don't tax us, or you wont get your Pork check.

Actually, I was referring to the "some articles" comment. I'm hoping that I don't have to go into detail as to why this vague statement makes it difficult for one to formulate a response.

However, if the OP was referring to articles such as this:
http://blogs.wsj.com/developments/2011/07/22/government-weighs-turning-foreclosures-into-rentals/

...it discusses that some people working in the government are considering this option. The OP seems to state this option as fact, when so far it's being tossed around. I'm sure that you realize many ideas are tossed around in Washington.

However, if you wish to post a knee-jerk reaction to a hypothetical (For an example, please refer to your comment about American bullet trains surely being built by the Chinese), by all means, I yield to the gentleman from Florida...
