"The police report said Reeves fired one shot from his .380 caliber semiautomatic handgun after the two men exchanged words over Oulson's use of his smartphone shortly before a screening of military action film "Lone Survivor.""

Reeves claimed that he fired because he felt he was "under threat" after the other guy threw a bag of popcorn at him.

Yup, they are. I agree with you.

Being assaulted in the dark with flying projectiles from someone screaming at you is pretty frightening and can trigger self-defense maneuvers.

Just imagine if the douche-bag stood up, took 20 steps to the lobby as advised by the internal theater law, texted his daughter , took 20 steps back, sat down and ate his popcorn and watched the movie...

Just imagine if he wasn't just an ignorant ass who didn't give a fuck about the people around him who paid ripoff ticket prices to watch a feature length film without cellphone distractions as they were indirectly promised by theater officials with all the advisory notices on the widescreen bleeting at them the moment you walk into the fucker?

Just imagine if he wasn't just some pompous prick that just could not be 'talked down to' ( as he probably perceived ) by some old fart in front of his wench and the general public.

He'd be alive today...porking his babe...going to work today.....But noooooo...he had to be a dickwad...

In this country, in this day and age, with all the armed crazies walking around due to lax liberal induced mentally ill confinement laws, it just doesn't pay to be a dickwad...

HEY YOU says

Popcorn is frightening!

I don't have to have a background check or CCP for popcorn.

Fuck with Tub Toters & end up with salt in your eyes.

I'm just waiting for LEOs to shoot/kill someone & a friend or family member go insanely, cunningly angry. Wonder who the targets might be?

Defenders of these shooters think they are Ten Feet Tall & Bullet Proof & that nothing could ever happen to their loved ones in a public place.

Hope they don't get that knock on their door.

Turnabout is fair play

22   Y   2014 Jan 14, 10:32pm

Normally, I agree.
However the popcorn cooking policy for that particular theater has not been publicized, thus, in this time and place, my link remains relevant until proven otherwise..

I hope they discipline the cop for not shooting the guy right off; no reason to leave the theater and then return. Justice delayed is justice denied.

Too bad the texting asshole wasn't black: now the authorities will have to try the guy, to pretend they actually care.

He clearly was a Senior hating Liberal, he probably blamed the old guy for the high cost of the theater ticket.

The usual authority bootlickers are out, saying it's okay to shoot somebody for using a cell phone prior to the movie starting, as the article clearly states.

The theater personnel probably told Lord GrouchFart "He can use his cell phone until the movie starts".

Retired Cop wasn't used to people blowing him off when he told them to jump. Berated the guy some more, so the guy threw some popcorn at him. Then retired cop, mad that he lost his authoritah, shot him.

Note that the wife was also wounded in the shooting.

Here's the "Big Jerk" who wouldn't turn off his cell phone.

YEP. Guessed it right, he was checking in on his little daughter before the movie started. Also, nobody knows who threw popcorn, could have been kids in the back row.

Here is the article from the local News:

“There was an altercation because the victim was using his cell phone. He was texting,” Nocco said. “This led to a verbal altercation, the verbal altercation escalated.”

Reeves pulled out a .380-caliber handgun and as Nicole Oulson raised her hand, the shooter fired once, Nocco said.

A witness said the shooting happened during previews to the movie. Charles Cummings told reporters that Chad Oulson sat two seats from him and his son. Reeves was upset by Oulson’s cell phone use and the two argued, Reeves then got up and left the theater for a brief time, Cummings said.

“He came back very irritated,” Cummings said. Nocco told reporters that the shooter had gone to report the encounter to an employee.

The two men started arguing again and the cell phone user told the other man he was just texting his daughter, Cummings said.A few silent seconds elapsed and the argument started again.

“Their voices started going up. There seemed to almost be a confrontation,” Cummings said. “Somebody throws popcorn; I’m not sure who threw it. And then bang, he was shot.”

The victim staggered over and fell on Cummings and his son. A nurse who was in the theater performed CPR on the victim until the paramedics arrived, said Cummings, who like his son, had spatters of blood on his clothes.

The shooter sat down and put the gun on his lap, and an off-duty deputy from Sumter County who was there to watch the film made sure the shooter didn’t leave.

Nocco said Reeves was at the theater with his wife, and there was no indication that the two couples involved knew each other.

The shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m. inside one of the theaters at the Grove 16 complex, sheriff’s spokeswoman

As for Trayvon, we Zimmerman haters were right. The guy has had the cops called on him by his ex-wife and his new girlfriend both in just the past few months since the trial. Zimmerman instigated the whole thing by confronting an innocent teenager on his way back from the convenience store.

More like:
Retired fragile 71 year old cop repeatedly asks a strong 30 something ignoramus to turn off his cell phone as the light from the phone was distracting to everyone in the dark theater watching the screen, which is why the theater plays ads on the screen 'ad infinitum' prior to the movie imploring people to do just that.

After failing to secure the attention of movie personel to handle the situation, he then pleads with the perp to please shut the phone down, whereas the perp in a typical bully move stands up tall and hurls multiple objects at the old man in the dark.

The old man, with failing facilities due to advanced age reacts instinctively based on his occupation to the incoming physical attack and draws his weapon to defend himself. Timing is such that the oldster does not know if the "throwing shit in the face tactic" is an attempt to blind him from the probable incoming fisticuffs and/or heavy metal bombardment from the bully.

Formal police training dictates that when a perp initiates a physical attack the victim has the legal authority to defend himself at all costs, which is what happened.

If the physically fit bully would only have walked 20 steps to the lobby, texted to his hearts content, and walked 20 steps back to his seat to watch the movie.....if only.....

DA Claims it's not the first time this retired, fragile cop picked a fight at the movie theater:

At one point, prosecutor Manny Garcia told the judge that after Monday's shooting, a woman had come forward to describe an incident at the same movie house in the town of Wesley Chapel last month.

“She was at the Cobb movie theater when she was confronted by the defendant for texting,” Garcia reported.

Garcia said that the 6-foot-1, 275 pound Reeves had even trailed the woman when she went to the ladies room in the midst of the movie.

“He was glaring at her the entire time,” Garcia reported to the judge.

Nope. Victim explained to Perpetrator that he was communicating with his daughter (turns out this was via the babysitter). It was the first time the parents had gone out together without their toddler in a long time, as their kid had been attacked by a dog in recent weeks.

The two men started arguing again and the cell phone user told the other man he was just texting his daughter, Cummings said. A few silent seconds elapsed and the argument started again.

According to Police:

When Reeves returned, witnesses and authorities said that Oulson asked him if he had gone to tell on him for texting. Oulson reportedly said, in effect: I was just sending a message to my young daughter.

Police said Tuesday that Oulson was texting the daughter's babysitter.

http://edition.cnn.com/2014/01/14/justice/florida-movie-theater-shooting/

Just a nice middle class white couple trying to make their different schedules work to have lunch and a movie together, and concerned because it's the first time they left their 3-year old with a sitter since the kid was attacked by a dog.

Unfortunately, a retired overseer was on a holy mission to stamp out runaway pre-movie texting with extreme prejudice, by any means necessary.

Yep, It says a lot about America that people are even trying to defend this.

Even if he had not been a successful, married father and veteran, and was Charlie Sheen's character from two and a half men calling up an escort service or his dealer for some blow, talking during movie previews is about 1 on a scale of 10. Shooting somebody for talking on a cell phone is about a 9.99 out of 10 on the fucked up scale.

If shooting somebody for throwing popcorn was acceptable behavior, there would be very few native born American males that survived to 21.

I guess the moral of the story is, in Florida, don't eat skittles or popcorn or Arizona Iced Tea.

51   Y   2014 Jan 15, 2:03am

You left out some convenient facts.
1- The ex-cop was 71 years old.

2- ex-cops can carry weapons anywhere, as HR218 spells out
http://www.fop.net/legislative/issues/hr218/hr218faq.pdf
They need self protection from perps they put away during their career, that might come back to exact revenge.

3- texting somebody turns on the phone screen, and acts as a light source in the darkness, which is a distraction to other viewers. That is why all movie theaters prohibit usage of cell phones in theaters.

4- He shot him after having stuff thrown at him in the dark.

So the bigger question is why you would leave out those facts in your statement?

55   Y   2014 Jan 15, 2:16am

It's not. Nobody has ever stated that it was.

But if you are stupid enough to throw shit at elderly people in the dark, or anyone for that matter, not knowing if they are armed and/or have full mental capacity, you are partially responsible for whatever happens...

The guy could have
* ignored the cop and continued texting
* gone out to the lobby like 99.9% of the population and continued texting
* shut off his phone and watched the movie

But he chose to start a physical altercation not knowing who or what he was dealing with. That was his tragic choice.
