A county clerk in Kentucky who was briefly jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples said on Friday that she and her family have switched to the Republican party because the Democrats no longer represented them.

Rowan County clerk Kim Davis, 50, who has said her beliefs as an Apostolic Christian prevent her from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, said they had changed parties last week. She was a long-time Democrat in eastern Kentucky.

“My husband and I had talked about it for quite a while and we came to the conclusion that the Democratic party left us a long time ago, so why were we hanging on?” she told Reuters in an interview at a hotel in Washington, where she has traveled to be feted at a Family Research Council event later on Friday.

Davis also said she did not foresee a problem with the current marriage licenses being issued by her office in Morehead, Kentucky. Critics have charged the altered licenses, which removed her name and title and the name of the county, violate an order issued by US district judge David Bunning and raise questions about their validity.

Just like the Racist Southern Democrats switched to the Republican party starting in the 60s.

it's just one of those things societies work hard to eliminate, like other problems such as robberies, rape, and various petty crime.

Umm, those are things that affects others. How does two dudes or women going at it affect you? That is just jihadi thinking-though the jihaidsts take it one level beyond-matched by the Christian lunatics in Uganda.

Homosexuality isn't really a "melting pot" thing, it's just one of those things societies work hard to eliminate, like other problems such as robberies, rape, and various petty crime.

Being gay is genetic. You cannot wake up one day and say ........I'm gonna be bad and have sex with another man. You cannot get sexually aroused by another man, if you are not gay. Almost all societies have discriminated gays to affect a change in behavior, which never worked. We live in a world that is quickly embracing secularism. What gays do, has no effect on our lifestyle, just let them be.

That's like saying being a murderer is genetic, as well as rape. That's not an excuse for socially undesirable behavior.

Besides homosexuality just like everything else can be taught. It isn't as genetic as liberals like to sell it to be, because if it was than show me the gene that they have that makes them go gay, science is advanced they can pinpoint those things. But there isn't a gay gene, because it's not genetic, it's learned. It's pure basic perversion and stupidity. Just like drugs and alcohol and other stupid crap, some asshole makes it sounds cool on tv and sheep do the same.

FortWayne, there has to be a genetic component to this. If I saw a complete act of male gay sex, I would be disgusted, turned off, and may not get an erection for a whole damn month. If I see 2 lesbians go at it, I get an erection in 10 seconds.
Check this out:

Gay gene discovery has good and bad implications
The finding that male homosexuality has a strong genetic component should be a boon for gay rights – but it could backfire

23   FortWayne   2015 Sep 27, 8:31pm

It's a good article. Sounds like they are discussing the "what if it is a gene and not a life style choice." It's an interesting philosophical what if. If the gene is found, we as society would be obligated to fix the gene through medicine.

I really don't think they will ever find a gene, because I truly believe it is a lifestyle choice and no such gene exists. If poor nations have a lot less of it, while wealthy nations like ours (where people are born out of their own mind with too much wealth and drugs), it's a sign that it's a learned lifestyle choice. Otherwise the percentages of it would be quite equal among all nations.

Here is an interesting thought. I'd be just as equally disgusted by the former, however latter would also disgust me. I wonder if that's generational, raised Catholic we were just raised to think such behavior as terrible.

And it's why it might be that our society on that slippery slope to hell. Food for thought. In history books it's well documented, Roman empire got too prosperous, and family values were all but gone. I remember learning about this in College and being completely terrified of this happening in America. There were men renting boys, because that was a sign of dominance and wealth in that society. Prostitution was plenty, and society fell apart because no normal person cared to work to improve it, for it was not a society worth working/fighting for.

I know I shouldn't but what the hell - drugs and alcohol like in abuse/abuser/addict/alcoholic are a learned behavior because someone saw something or someone else and thought it was "cool" ? The grade schools must be filled with young malleable minds whose dreams when they grow up are to be addicted to something.....

Yes young minds can be taught to believe anything and everything. It's why some people grow up morally right, and some grow up like Bernie Madoff who think living a life of theft and fraud is totally acceptable. Everything is that way, alcohol, drugs, homosexuality, everything.

Actually, not to open up a whole new can of worms.........genes have been identified that make you prone to committing crime. My guess, these studies are not welcome by society because of political correctness.
If you think about it, ALL our physical characteristics and personalities, and instincts are inherited. (excluding genetic mutation)

Someone can learn not be an insufferable bitch provided their is sufficient motivation (reward) but I would venture that even this is only window dressing and the real persona lies in wait.

People have a whole subset of personalities and instincts controlled by our genes. We have an ability to do bad things, and an ability to do good things. We are also prone to brain washing, which can bring out the best in us or the worst in us.
I'm sorry about your brother.

I am genuinely curious about this, and Forthood won't answer because he Ignores me. If someone he doesn't Ignore might ask him, or if anybody can remember him posting, I would like to know. I suspect that the guaranteed student loan program becomes (along with religious organizations' tax exempt status) a mechanism by which government is used to subsidize religious indoctrination rather than education. Forthood lies endlessly, but he seems genuinely to believe his ignorant comments about Roman history, and I wonder if those result from his own "terrified" misreading or deliberate manipulation or both. Certain Vatican-dominated institutions have been notorious for producing phony sophistry dressed up in the guise of science, and I wonder if they have been trying to revise history the same way, or if this came from one of the newer competitors (Oral Roberts "Liberty" "University" etc.).

I know I shouldn't ask this but once again, what the hell. Do you recall anyone ever saying to you or anyone else in grade school, high school or college - man - those alcoholics are cool, I mean check out the way they die dude and how many lives they fuck up in the process, same for the addicts. Man - that's the life for me - fuck that normal bullshit - I want my life and everyone's around me to be a living hell.

It's coming to the television near you. I saw a John Oliver episode, it was the one on college debt, at the end he asked Americans to have more gay sex. Think about it, a man on television telling Americans, fairly young and stupid probably to go have more homosexual sex. Teaching is starting now that is legal, you wouldn't hear that on television say 5 years ago, when it was still a social tabu.

"Oh yeah. And the two girls are gonna throw a rock at the window at 10PM."
" Cool, let's sneak them down into the basement and watch political commentary shows."

And the end result will be that people who want to have gay sex will have gay sex. I'm not worried, I won't turn gay. You shouldn't worry either if you're not already gay. I'm pretty sure non-gay people won't feel pressured into having gay sex. It'll never be our patriotic duty. Unless, or course. You're already gay.

He also encourages people to ride a unicycle from class to class, drink beer out of a funnel and to shoot fireworks out of any available orifice. I'd worry more about the burns, head trauma and alcohol poisoning consequences of those over those of a few gay sex acts.

So if that's ok, why don't you go on television and tell people to go murder someone, see how long before you get cut off and in jail? Why? Because people do what they are told, and we all know that. It's just you guys like gay stuff, so naturally you don't see a problem with it, the rest of us are not into it so we naturally want it out of society.

Wow, you equate the morality of advocating gay sex to advocating murder?

Although to be fair most religions have condoned - indeed directly committed murder for people who engage in gay sex. So your morality is par for the course.

Roman empire... I remember learning about this in College and being completely terrified of this happening in America.

About Rome, read John Boswell (who chaired the history department at Yale) or any list of "the five good emperors," of whom one was gay exclusively (Hadrian) and three were bisexual.

Again, if someone Forthood doesn't Ignore can get him to name which "College" he claims to have attended, it will be possible to check whether they really teach what he claims, and whether they get government funding.

Ultimately though, aside from counting himself more Catholic than the Pope (and thus demonstrating once again Dan's epiphany thread), he is merely a Larry Craig closet case who gets off by flagellating himself and trolling. He used the same "FortWayne" screen name to troll SFGate.com the same way, until they kicked him off. PatNet being a "free speech zone" (now with enhanced Ignorance functionality), he can continue indefinitely.

Meanwhile, notice Kim Davis got married to three different men but had kids with only one of them (and he was not her husband at the time). So, with 2/3 of her husbands, she had no kids, even though she's obviously fertile. If the photos and videos are any indication, she's not exactly the prize pig at the fair, so who are those guys getting married to her? Forthood. And to the surprise of no one, she and her current husband (who is not the father of her kids) are registering as Republicans, specifically so they can have the power to impose their religious strictures on others through force of law. Larry Craig, Jerry Sandusky, Dennis Hastert, Florida Rep. Foley, Ted Haggard, George Rekers, and others are not the exceptions: they are part of a pattern, wherein closet cases and their scared wives account for half the Republican primary voters and probably a substantial share of religious fundamentalists worldwide. These religions spread by reproduction, violence, and lies, not persuasion; so, Forthood can continue lying all day long and expect his omnipotent ego extension to reward him for that.

I wonder if as a child, Forthood got jealous when the priest he was blowing dumped him for a prettier altar boy instead. Scorned and angry, Forthood left Catholicism for a more hateful denomination, and thus ignores the example of the Pope.
