Sure, Google and Facebook basically did in the newspapers, but the old time papers were not all that great to begin with. We just replaced one evil with another.
One piece of magic was that Youtube flagrantly allowed copyright violations in the early days, holding out until they were brought by Google, when then had a massive legal army to defeat RIAA/Hollywood suits.
It's interesting that then-new Vimeo was able to near-instantly remove copyrighted material like music videos, but Youtube-Google still claims to be unable to distinguish copyright violations or "hateful content"
