Average-priced car is "elitist scam"? WTF? Is Camcord "elitist" now too? Is $50K Silverado "elitist"?
Have you ever met a middle class person driving a Tesla?
Tenpoundbass saysHave you ever met a middle class person driving a Tesla?
Every day. In fucking droves.

Droves? The droves I see around me in Boston are the same ICEs: Porsche, Lexus, BMW, Infinity, etc, etc
You need to get out more then. In SFBA the Model3 is the fucking equivalent of beige Corolla of 20 years ago.

You said it right there, SFBA, the land of flakes and dreamers. Realize, I'm an east coaster. My strip of land is between Boston and DC.
I don't get it; why are you folks so captivated by this EV/Tesla fandom?
I don't get the hate on Tesla and Musk.
I don't hate Musk personally or any of his companies. I just don't get the insane valuation of a stock whose stock valuation should be in line with other automakers.

If he wasn't a narcissistic twit, he'd sell car thing to GM and take over the world bolting big batteries and increasingly efficient solar panels to houses.
socal2 saysthey are light years ahead of most of the competition
In what ways?
If they have problems being profitable now, with a small slowdown in car sales, they will not survive the next recession.
Space freight, yeah. It's a business.
Acceleration
So, what's the equivalent of beige Corolla from 20 years ago in Assachussets? Same beige Corolla but with floors rusted through?
Musk is one of the few Silicon Valley types who is not a total SJW moron and actually building a product people want.
socal2 saysAcceleration
There is zero need to accelerate any faster at all than what has been possible the last decades, unless you want to connect it some ultra-smart and bug-proof AI that can use lightning fast acceleration in swerve maneuvers for accident prevention. Which isn't happening. It's probably causing more accidents as people try to impress by showing off. So acceleration is merely used for status-symbol signaling.

Have you ever driven an EV? The acceleration is exquisite. I just have a Chevy Bolt which is not as quick as the baseline Teslas, and it is a total blast to drive every day. I don't even speed that much. I just get to the speed limit as quickly as possible in a very smooth and quiet fashion without being obnoxious with a loud ICE engine. Every time I get to accelerate off a stop light is a joy and never seems to get old.
The one pedal driving and regenerative engine braking is just the icing on the cake.
Driving my wife's ICE car just feels stupid to me now.

.....With the above stated, today I'm a grown up and prefer to be driven around by a chauffeur and enjoy life.
AccelerationIt's taken 56 years to get here. Ten years before this race, the Ford had an engine designed in 1932 and the Chevy designed in 1929--both produced a little over 100 horsepower, including the brand new Corvette. Ten years later, this is what you could walk into any dealership and order:
The Tesla is a Status Symbol.
Like the Rented Babe Dining Companion. To Be Seen With.
Like some performance you shared about an encounter.

You can toss in the rusted Civics a/o Altimas.
You're being more honest about your likes.
Welcome to Silicon Valley.
Yes, it's strange, having olde world New England values
How exactly fucking prostitutes fits into "olde world New England values"?
That stuff is illegal in New England exactly because of these values.
divorce court and losing half of one's portfolio.

Try all of the USA minus a few desert communities in Nevada.
divorce court and losing half of one's portfolio.
Yep, you can thank the "olde world New England values" for it. Because for many years the people with these values were ruling the US of A.
