If you are so sure of yourself, why are you using the word "might"???

Nothing is 100% in life. If the Koch Brothers keep running commercials to sabotage participation in health insurance (which will cause people to die), then it might not work.

I think Quigley nailed it. To predict what will happen, you need to look at how the rich and the corporations will fare. If the default will hurt them, then it won't happen. If it will benefit them, then it will.

I kind of disagree with this.
It's clear the rich will lose big in a default. Yet their influence seems minimal. Some rich guys organized the tea party and they were planning to use them the way they used the religious right: to sustain a strong pro-corporate agenda. Only their beast escaped them.

Tea party morons probably think default is a good idea. It will come as a shock to them when they hit the bread lines.

It will work for a lot of poor rednecks living in those gerrymandered tea-party districts. Flash forward to congressional town hall meetings in 4 years: "Keep government's hands off my Obamacare!"

That is the republican nightmare!

STEPHANOPOULOS: So under no circumstances will you pass a clean debt limit?

BOEHNER: We're not going down that path.

Boner is so full of shit. This is ALL on you, Boner. You guys tried to take the debt ceiling hostage and you failed. Give it up, and stop trying to blame the other side, because nobody believes you.

Sorry I'm not close to being able to relate to a "let's shut Washington down completely" comment. Just keepin it real, at least from my perspective.

Bad vibes are in the eye of the beholder.

Good job though with your posts bro. You really put the turd in mershedperturders.

The shudown won't end until the markets go down another 5% or so. Then congress and Obama will cover their short positions and announce an agreement.

38218   freak80   2013 Oct 6, 10:33pm

Mish and Schiff are well-known Austrian cranks. Their whole "fed is causing (or will cause) hyperinflation" narrative is bullshit.

Mish is actually a libertarian crank. Sort of amusing if you like reading the world is ending every post but not very realistic. He does post against hyperinflation though so he can't be lumped with schiff.

38220   freak80   2013 Oct 6, 11:19pm

Sigh. Isn't it spelled "Vaseline"?

38221   zzyzzx   2013 Oct 6, 11:22pm

The American Medical Association has weighed in on Obama's new health care package.

The Allergists were in favor of scratching it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.

Meanwhile, Obstetricians felt certain everyone was laboring under a misconception, while theOphthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!"

The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it.

Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and the Internists claimed it would indeed be a bitter pill to swallow.

The Plastic Surgeons opined that this proposal would "put a whole new face on the matter."

The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea.

Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and those lofty Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Washington.

This is simply an opportunity to buy the dip in the stock market after as this all plays out.

38223   theoakman   2013 Oct 7, 1:19am

I disagree with the workplaces won't be cutting the hours. They keep referencing studies saying all indicators that point to that not being true. It is true. I've seen it happen already with several employers gearing up to cut hours to part time workers.

They've done it at dozens of school districts in New Jersey already where substitute teachers are only allowed to work 3 days a week for this reason. And, the worst part is, this is a municipal entity, not some corporation run by a board looking to maximize profit.

38224   edvard2   2013 Oct 7, 1:21am

Ahhh... another one of these little ancedotal stories meant to try and broadly disprove a much larger subject area. Like I've said before, I am certain that you can give me any subject, and story, or any piece of either democratic or republican legislation and I too can easily find a story or two of someone or a small group of people who have been affected negatively in some way. Therefore as in other cases, you're not proving anything. Yet this seems to be a favorite tactic from some our resident GOP shills...

Sub teachers didn't get healthcare before, did they? Even if they did limit their hours, how is that making things worse?

And you keep posting links to Politifact, a known left wing website..

You blow your whole argument...

lol. Reality has a liberal bias. Truth has a liberal bias.

Instead of saying the source is biased, how about you actually show what is incorrect with their reasoning? Or which facts politifact is incorrectly representing?

Just kidding. I know you won't do that....

38227   edvard2   2013 Oct 7, 1:25am

I'll be honest: To me all of the cable news channels produce what I'd call "Junk food news". I can barely watch any of those channels because the news is so distilled and dumbed down, the time spent per story is so short, and the depth given on the coverage is so meager that to me about the only thing its good for is background noise while running at the Gym. About the only news I ever really care to get isn't even on the tube. I typically listen to NPR, BBC, CBC, and read the news on a number of various web sites.

38230   freak80   2013 Oct 7, 1:50am

I know of some left-wing websites which claim the world is round.

38231   Danaseb   2013 Oct 7, 1:51am

atleast it will be primarily nailing the stupid twats who have kept the USA out of single payer the last 30 years; aka the 50-70 year olds. Americans; a pennywise and dollar foolish.

38232   tatupu70   2013 Oct 7, 2:00am

Right on cue.

38233   tatupu70   2013 Oct 7, 2:04am

So, CIC, again. What does politifact have wrong? If they're so liberally biased, it should be easy to rebut their opinion.

38234   freak80   2013 Oct 7, 2:05am

They'll reach an agreement. It's all just political posturing. And getting the markets down for a quick profit.

38240   edvard2   2013 Oct 7, 2:39am

We won't default. I can guarantee this is what will happen:

1: GOP will refuse to budge until the 11th hour.
2: At 11th hour, GOP conceded defeat, passes debt ceiling bill
3: Will say something like" The Democrats have won this time, but we'll be back!"- and then proceed to try and find some other prone-to-failure method to defund Obamacare.

Everybody should have healthcare insurance but only the insured( beneficiary ) should pay for it, NOT employers or taxpayers via tax subsidy. This is called personal responsibility which is not in Democratic dictionary. They want everyone to have everything but want others to pay for it!

This is called personal responsibility which is not in Democratic dictionary.

There are also things called "forces beyond a person's control" which is not in the Republican dictionary.

Example: a person is laid off, and then gets a serious illness.

Example2: a person is seriously injured on the job and cannot work for a long period of time

Example3: a whole generation is suckered into believing that a college degree = a good paying job

Example4: a whole generation is suckered into massive student loan debt which will burden the entire economy for decades to come.

Example5: a person is born into poverty

Etc...
