This is both sad and ironic. Apparently the governor of OK, Mary Fallin passed a bill which effectively bans minimum wage increases. The reasoning is that somehow this will be best for the state. bottom line- makes the state more attractive to companies who want labor done on the cheap.
I find it ironic because here we have perhaps one of the most staunch, conservative states in the country with a very strong GOP majority and yet this action goes against the very thing that the GOP has been railing against ever since Obama got elected: Big government and big government intervention, especially in the economy. And yet here's a classic example of big government intervention!
I think the takeaway message here and hopefully one that the working and middle class increasingly sees from continual actions like this one is that the GOP doesn't their self interests in mind. That the GOP just seems to be all about bending over backwards for big business to such extremes shows that they are about as far from being representatives for the people as can be imagined.
