IT kind of gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to know that pretty much EVERY comment of mine gets a "dislike" from some emotionally challenged and feeble ingrate that doesn't even read them, but has nothing better to do.

( It would be funny, if Fort Wayne then responds - "that's not true, I sometimes read them !")

Once again, who the hell cares about the World Cup?

And again, if Team USA is a composite team of foreigners, once again, who cares? I believe that Landon Donovan, America's top US born player, is not even in the World Cup this year. So if the Captain wants to get mad, he should be mad at that fact.

The whole Ann Coulter thing is about turning an international sport, into a bashing of foreigners and 3rd world ppl.

Does everyone know that the biggest obstacle to Soccer REALLY blowing up in this country is that it doesn't have television timeouts?

This is a big reason it has never taken off. Same with hockey. American sports with their insanely long delays, timeouts, video replays, etc., are dull to watch after you've watched an international sport.

Try watching a rugby match and then turning on NFL. ...snooze...

marcus says

Live games can be viewed if you pay the fairly modest subscription fee

I thought that was the cable fee ($40-200/subscriber/month). Apparently American broadcast networks still need more? Are we not paying our actors, players, and coaches enough? So much so that we have to watch fucking Daniel Tosh eating hamburgers in 80s jean shorts during TV timeouts???

Translation: not only does the team lack real Americans with names like David Scott and Bob White, they don't even have blacks, who are fake Americans!

Translation in your racist Liberal mind.
I meant to say, out of all of the athletic blacks that our country produces, that excels in every sport America has to offer, there's not one single Soccer player from our pool of Black American athletes.

But if you(meaning You Huggybear Imtoodumbtocomeupwithanorginalmonkier), are blinded by bigotry and hate, you're free to feel how ever you want about a Brohta.

Ann Coulter is just mad because after every soccer match, third world professional soccer players have mad, mindless orgies impregnating willing, blond debutant groupies in the locker rooms.

This miscegenation is a disgrace to conservative oligarch ethnic purity.

Ann wasn't invited. That is why she is so upset.
I wonder what she feels about basketball.

63   Rin   2014 Jun 28, 7:58am

The best American soccer player, Landon Donovan, isn't in the World Cup this year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landon_Donovan

Excerpt:

"Donovan was included in the squad for the 2010 World Cup, and played all four games in the United States' campaign. He scored against Slovenia with a shot straight up into the goal past the goalkeeper's face, in a 2–2 tie, and the only goal in the dying seconds of a 1–0 defeat of Algeria off of a rebounded attempt on goal by teammate Clint Dempsey, leading the USA to win their World Cup group for the first time since 1930.

Donovan scored a penalty against Ghana as the U.S lost 2–1 after extra time and were eliminated from the competition. His goals in the 2010 World Cup made Donovan the highest scoring American man in World Cup history, and just the third American man to score in more than one World Cup (after Brian McBride and Clint Dempsey).

His total of five World Cup goals is the most for any man representing a team from CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football)."

Ok, after that, there's no needed talk about foreigners, bigotry, etc because that's a sideshow.

We're one Yankee short, of fielding the best American team. Yes, the handful of American soccer fans I know, all concur on this statement. Now, if you don't like soccer then don't watch it! But please, don't turn this into an American vs Foreigner thing.

64   Tenpoundbass   2014 Jun 28, 7:59am

OK sbh darling, what about this fact that you so quoted of me so eloquently stating the current American soccer team that has your Liberal race baiting fake outrage scenes tingling?

Well I'll just take the Liberty to speak for Ann and myself.
It's not an American thing for US, and if you're so thrilled watching soccer, then knock your self out. But don't make some race baiting side show out of speaking their mind about Soccer.

I don't like american football either, does that make me Cad as well?

Look the American sports enthusiast will cheer on dung Beatles racing in a Rubbermaid tub, if there's enough beer and face paint involved.
They aren't going to be diswaded by Ann Coulters remarks.

The Miami Heat just lost their core today, every player that has made the Heat the Heat for the last three years, in one minute, they just vanished and became free agents.

What that means for me, is the Miami heat fanaticism next year, will be just a measly one fifth of what it has been for the last three years.

I'll be able to schedule functions without it conflicting with a Heat game, because nobody will give a fuck.

THIS is what we're working with here. Finicky media produced Sports fans. Ann nor I am taking pop shots at Soccer as a whole, we're just being honest with the average American fan, and the reality that the USA soccer team could just as easily been the South African soccer team, had the numbers worked.

I'm bored by Sports but am fascinated by the politics of the teams and psyche of the fans.

I would bet you anything if we had a team made up of all American players, then there would be considerable more interest in the World Cup. My wife is Peruvian so she's following the game, the games she's catching are only being broadcaster on Latin stations. I haven't flipped one single time to any of the networks since the games started and caught anything related to soccer. Other than quick blurbs in the news.
Every time I go from my office in the back of the house to the kitchen near the Living-room, my wife has a soccer game going on a Latin channel.

I have a more objective eye than you do, because I'm following other realities than who scored on the field for what team.

I root for the underdog, Cap, that's why I don't put you on ignore as I have the Abilene bropappy, the village idiogenous, the conspiracy theorist, and the perpetually wong-headed. Someday you'll stop being such a victim. That is my faith. But, in the meantime, you don't get to claim that someone is a racist for calling you one. It doesn't work that way in the rational world. But then yours is not that world. Someday you'll bring yourself in line with what is rather than what has gone away. That is my faith.

So you've got NOTHING, you just hate to hear me speak the truth.

Well at least you're honest.

First of all, I don't care for soccer and second, this is what Ann said ...

"If more "Americans" are watching soccer today, it's only because of the demographic switch effected by Teddy Kennedy's 1965 immigration law. I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer. One can only hope that,in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time."

This is race baiting, as the '65 immigration law allows for ppl from 3rd world nations to emigrate to the US.

And finally, *learning English* means that these aren't British immigrants, who BTW, are both soccer fans and speak the Queen's tongue.

68   Tenpoundbass   2014 Jun 28, 8:20am

Shouldn't you be watching soccer or something right now, since you give a fuck about it so much?

You just demand that Ann Coulter watches it.

Here's where you call me stupid again, but you haven't said one single thing in this debate that took more brain activity than it takes to get wood while watching a porn video.

This is more "reverse-race-baiting" style of bullshit. No { liberal, moderate, or non-political } cares whether Ann Coulter watches futbol or just continues to masturbate to the Rodney King beating video. It is SHE who demands that soccer watchers be a specific kind of person, namely niggers and queers, or, if you have a delicate constitution, non-americans.

It's not demand, it's a type of guilt by association.

If you're a soccer fan, even if you're of European descent, then you're influenced by Latinos, South Asians, Near Easterners, Africans, etc. And thus, you'd better stop watching it, if you want to be assimilated into our culture instead of being a permanent part of some 'other' demographic.

And yes, few in the middle (you know, the moderates who don't watch soccer but also don't call our British & Brazilians friends a bunch of !%^7*#) don't give a rat's about what Coulter thinks.

76   Tenpoundbass   2014 Jun 28, 10:14am

It means what it means, the only people who talk about Soccer are expats and illegals. Even the multi generational Latin people I know aren't into soccer at all. Not in the least bit. My wife is not a sports fan, but her heritage to watch the world cup because it's on. Is greater than her complacency about who actually wins. She hopes Peru will win but knows unequivocally that they wont. She has it on, because it's her cultural traddtion it's ingrained. And I think that's that AWESOME!

Now return the same consideration for those of us American's that aren't the least bit impressed. We're not in short company. You are, no matter how you wanna spin it.

Like shb, he doesn't even have a thought on Soccer and can really care a less about it. Unless Me or Ann Coulter pipes in and tells the truth about the lack of American enthusiasm and fanbase of Soccer.

Even on the News all of the fans that they show on the news that are at the Sports bars for various games. Are all Latinos. Even when they did the American team segment. This wasn't Hooters in Crackerville, full of white folk. It was a bar packed full of people of Latin country decent, who like my wife. Are ingrained to seek out the game when they play.

While Willy Johnson and Jarred Vazquez(3rd generation Cuban American) is at home following the Heat saga.

77   Tenpoundbass   2014 Jun 28, 10:18am

I think Soccer Hooligans are disappointed that us Yanks don't have any skin in the game, so they can fong the living stuffing out of us, when we're talking game smack.

78   Bigsby   2014 Jun 28, 10:19am

If you aren't interested in football, then you're hardly in a position to talk about other people's interest in it or lack thereof.

79   Tenpoundbass   2014 Jun 28, 10:21am

But I'm into the existential trivial politics and hullabaloo that surround all sports. I just don't have any interest in the actual games nor the outcomes.

So actually it puts me in a better position than you.
I'm into that sorta thing.

80   Bigsby   2014 Jun 28, 10:23am

Then why are you discussing it in this thread? You seem more interested in the race aspect of it than anything else.

81   Tenpoundbass   2014 Jun 28, 10:28am

This is the hullabaloo part.

I promise to sit out the winners celebration thread.

Should one ever pop up on Patent, I doubt it, as this tread was about NOT supporting Ann Coulter more than it was about supporting FIFA.

In fact this is the hundred and FIRST post in this thread, and I'm the first one to even mention FIFA.

So perhaps it is YOU and everyone else that you should be asking this.

82   Bigsby   2014 Jun 28, 10:29am

What's FIFA got to do with anything? FIFA are a corrupt joke. Who needs to bring them up?

83   Rin   2014 Jun 28, 10:35am

The issue with this thread is that very few in America will argue the popularity of soccer in the US. It's very low, even in comparison to the lower rated college basketball squads.

With that said, this baiting those who like soccer, as a bunch of 2nd class citizens and their liberal supporters, is like telling me that I should go spit on my British and Brazilian friends, because they're nice to me and have invited me to watch soccer/futbol tournaments with them.

And this is where I tell ppl like Ann to f'ck off.

FIFA is the single most important website in the whole universe for all my Latin extended family that is passionate about Soccer. And BTW, they believe my assessment 100%.

You have to fing laugh. FIFA is an organization solely geared to hosting the WC every four years and the international games that involves. It's a closed, corrupt group of old men living it large. It isn't a bloody website. You are totally and utterly clueless. FIFA is basically meaningless if you follow football except for the WC. And even then, they are an impediment to its proper functioning. And if your friends talk about FIFA as you say they do, then they are as clueless about football as you.

Of course we're not Newcastle!

And even in my region, the New England Revolution, the soccer club, is nowhere near the popularity of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, or Bruins, not even close.

But still, some 13-15K ppl still attend those games so it's not like a zero attendance event.

NCAA does have a collegiate soccer league but like the MLS, the attendance is low, in comparison to the other sports.

93   Bigsby   2014 Jun 28, 11:14am

Football is a working class game that has no connection to higher education in the rest of the world and has only fairly recently been adopted by the chattering middle classes. Sports in the US appear (at least to an outsider) to revolve around the colleges. They certainly seem to be huge money making institutions that then directly feed into the professional leagues. It's a very different system to most (all?) other countries.

Apparently not.
Soccer is clearly not popular in America as it is in Europe and the rest of the world. It is, however, gaining in popularity, and one day will be just as popular.
For now, it is regarded as a sport for liberals, which is why it's knocked by the likes of Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh.
If you must knock it, don't knock it on the grounds of race, because that is pretty stupid. Knock it because it can be boring or low scoring, or you are just not into it.
But it's still a sport. Even my dog loves it. She cheats, and hogs the ball, but she loves it.
