German manufacturers and suppliers increased their production of cars in the United States from 214,000 to 850,000 between 2009 and 2016, according to Matthias Wissmann, head of the German Association of the Automotive Industry. My last VW was the best deal ever on a car. Owned it 3+ years. Put 65k on it. Never even had to do tires or brakes, just six oil changes and one DSG trans service. Some jerk hit it and i pocketed the insurance money just before selling it back to VW for almost what I paid for it. Not bad for a car that got ~45 mpg
