One item that has not been discussed is that the original rationalization to fire Comey was that Comey "usurped the role of the Attorney General" when he announced in 2016 that Hillary Clinton would not be prosecuted over the private email server use and security breach.

It seems clear to me that Comey was ASKED or ORDERED to make the decision and announcement because the AG herself (Loretta Lynch) wanted to distance herself from the prosecutorial decision. Why distance? Because of the absolute certainty that AG LL would be deemed partisan if she did not. I guess one could say that LL recused herself, in a way...

There was zero, nothing, no legal wrong doing by Comey. He "leaked" his own contemporaneous notes to expose wrongdoing and protect himself from the Liar in Chief.

A leaker would be someone who knowingly leaked classified information. There is no legal case here.

If you cannot answer the questions out of "confidentiality" concerns, it is going to raise suspicions, not alleviate them.

Sessions invoked once removed, pre-emptive Executive Privilege on the chance Trump would want to declare EP it in the future. That's amazingly unheard of.

Edit: so unheard I see senators who were former lawyers stating that they actually believe Sessions couldn't really name any legal grounds for why he wasn't answering.

Maybe not. The AG is a prosecuting attorney, not a defendant attorney, and does not have private clients per se. If AG did have clients, I think it would be all citizens equally.

The US has a strange and often flawed justice system. Most western countries have a minister of justice, not an "attorney general". Likewise, prosecutors are NOT political appointees in most western countries. For obvious reasons, one should think.

That's a bipartisan investigative committee there made up of ranking members of the Senate that happened today. It was beyond cordial, and more courteous than Session's deserved in parts.

What you don't see is, Mueller's arm kicking into gear now. He is the one you want to be scared of. He has the actual Comey memos. He is the one running the criminal investigation.

For a group of people claiming they wanted to fight corruption in government and drain the swamp, I find it shocking that investigations into potential corruption aren't your bread and butter ... so to speak. What gives?
