If by Cold War you are referring to the war of propaganda waged against USA citizens by oligarch owned media companies and complicit politicians, then yes. Russia is just doing its thing, trying to advance itself and its interests, same as every other nation on the planet. If we can't get along with them, it's because we aren't good at diplomacy.

I think you are wrong. Trump loves Putin. Besides, Russia is not a Superpower any more. They already lost the cold war, and surrendered most of their communist values.

Russia is on the side of weakened democratic alliances to further its own nationalist gains. It would love nations to promote nationalist interest and especially anti-Islamic ones. It is very "Make Russia Great Again". Please see Ukraine. Please see Eastern European nations who have warned of us their scaled up counter intelligence and election meddling. Please see a unanimous statement by our intelligence services that Russia hacked and sought to influence our election for Donald Trump. Please see continued aggression and attacks against our power plants and grid. Please see intelligence reports about the fact that have stepped up their intelligence activities against us. Please see Putin having a reported 9/10 approval rating ... because he kills the opposition and journalists.

Raqqa : the issue here now is which side will hold the city AFTER it is liberated. Russia/Assad/Iran or US/US-Syrian-backed-forces. This is the primary reason, with the chemical attack trigger, for a continued conflict between the 'coalition' forces right now. The noose tighten around the city by two different armies, essentially. The Jet was shot down because of this. Iranian drones shot down for encroaching.

Putin has cemented control of Russia (9/10 Russians approve, dissenters tend to die) and his approval has skyrocketed in the right wing nationalist movements of the US (mostly by GOP leaners) as well as UK/UKIP madness.

These were the opening moves. Russia is hoping US now entangles in N. Korea/China or Iran/more mid-east fun. With that it will move on former satellite Eastern European countries. Russia is highly encouraged by new US and European distancing. Russia's moves will come in the forms of subterfuge, intelligence wars, and offering to help with the 'growing threat of refugee terrorism' aimed at Eastern Europe. They will come as a champion of the West, and they will be anything but.
