I've been away for a few days. Saw some news headlines about a government shutdown. Came here for more details, but didn't see anything. What's up?

It's been forgotten.......typical 48 hour attention span. Time to move on to the next manufactured crisis.

I believe only 15% of the gov is shutdown. Everything else was funded. Once again the media blowing shit outta proportion.

More likely to be a bunch of fat people complaining about how they are starving.

They can get it the shut down, but not shut up?

Trump supporters are critical thinking geniuses, actual sevants when it comes to federal policy. That's why when confronted with questions about their favorite research and reports on why we need the wall, their erudite answer is something along the lines of:

"Dwarrrr,... me feel it in my gut. Me and other Trump supporting stable geniuses no need no evidence or libfag reasoning. To us, critical thinking is all about knowing what those fucking college educated assholes think. That and our programmed hatred. Those libtards love Mexicans and want this country to be taken over by Mexicans and terrorists. That's all me need to know. "

In all seriousness, maybe booger, zyzzx, or some other stable genius can point me to some factual reasons as to why we need a wall.

Spare me the isolated cases of illegal immigrants committing terrible crimes, becasue the number of illegal Mexicans in the country has been decreasing in recent years, and your wall is going to be locking many in.
13   RWSGFY   2018 Dec 29, 6:20pm

The Wall may be not the most efficient border control measure but it is the one the hardest to roll back. All that donkey clamouring for not doing anything unless it's perfect and "100% efficient" and dirt cheap is just a smokescreen to hide their opposition to stopping the illegal immigration on principle. Whatever "more efficient and cheaper" solution would be implemented instead of the robust physical structure it will be quietly abandoned once donkeys have the power again.

With a fucking steel and concrete wall it will take decades until it deteriorates enough to allow the hordes of would be Dem voters to flow freely across the border again. With "sensors, drones and high-tech shit" all it takes is a flick of a switch.
14   Shaman   2018 Dec 29, 6:27pm

I wonder how Canada would feel about it if we just let immigrants into our country from wherever and encouraged them to make their way north to their largely unprotected border?

Think their vaunted socialist state would quickly collapse under the weight of millions of new welfare cases?

Then again maybe they could use the people. They have fewer people in Canada than there are in California!

That's such unadulterated BS.

Border security was on a massive increase during the Obama years with huge increases in fencing (repairs to which Trump has referred to as work that's already being done on his wall). Also big increases in border patrol and high tech surveillance, before Trump. That's the future. Sensors, drones and border security personnel.

The wall is a TOTAL SCAM. It's a non issue drummed up to get Trumps base (they're not racists - really they aren't) all worked up.

Facts are a STILL thing !

A border minefield, with barbed wire, overlapping machine gun crossfire, with an occasional flyover by a helicopter gunship is all that is really necessary. Let the buzzards clean up the mess. That plus mandatory E-verify, and death penalty for hiring illegals. I would also put a bounty on anyone who could turn in any illegals.

Yeah, I'm sure Trump will find some underling to take the hit for all the illegals he's hired over the years.

I'll bet Trump knows what plausable deniability means. He also made his clothing line in foreign countries, and bought steel for his buildings from Chiyna.

But hey, it's only PR and bullshit that matters.

If walls don't work, then why does Obama have one around his house?
19   marcus   2018 Dec 29, 6:42pm

Is this really an argument you want to make ? Do you really think it is an argument ?

Walls sometimes work. Even walls for security purposes sometimes work. Nobody is denying that. The border with Mexico already has thousands of miles of fencing, basically walls. They've been repairing them in what Trump calls work that's already in progress on his wall.

Even with walls, you'll need just as much spent on technology and manpower for guards. Skip the wall, continue with what the people that work on this stuff full time have been implementing since LONG before Trump. For a guy that's so cheap that he notoriously stiffed contract workers, Trump sure isn't applying any common sense to the border security question.

Again, it's just political bullshit.

And as even you say, go after the people that hire illegals. Good luck with that, with unemployment as low as it is. It's such idiocy.

ALthough, who knows, maybe Trump really is a stable genius and the wall nonsense is just a call to bring more Mexicans in before the wall goes up (which it won't)

The ancients disagree. Nope the first thing the ancient civilizations learned is that it was easier and took fewer guards to protect a city or territory that was walled. Sheesh, Marcus, read a damn history book! I mean this is settled science for 6,000 years!

Hmm, welfare doesn't solve 100% of poverty, therefore, we should cancel all of it.
25   Maga_Chaos_Monkey   2018 Dec 30, 8:45pm

Definitely need e-verify as well as the wall as pillars. Add the tech after that. If he just gets 5 billion for the wall I'll be very unimpressed. Less and I'll laugh. Use that newly allocated national defense budget and army corps of engineers if they don't settle. That thing Obama couldn't pronounce.

So far it doesn't seem to solve any poverty at all. Every year we spend more, and problem gets worse. Seems like it's a non working solution.

You want an answer? You want the truth? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH. How do I know that?

Truth is, the wall is a symbol and a powerful one at that. How big of a symbol is Lady Liberty? The wall would be that big in importance.

Walls work. There are literally millions of examples. Big and small.
29   MisdemeanorRebel   2018 Dec 30, 9:26pm

Walls work. Reducing illegal immigration and drug traffic 20-30% would save billions in medical costs, housing costs, infrastructure overload, ESL Teachers, and increase taxable wages while reducing the black market for labor.

So even Obama agrees that physical barriers is a good idea? Good. But Obama is nobody now and the cunt who's running the show - Nancy "Lizard" Pelosi - openly opposes physical barriers as "immoral". Not "too expensive" or "inefficient", mind you, but immoral.

the black market for labor

This is the main thing, imho.

The whole shutdown, The Wall, etc, is really about the ability of rich Americans to fuck over the poorest Americans by giving their jobs to illegals for lower wages.

I think we should have a wall, but it would be even more effective to start jailing the employers of illegals. So far, Trump won't publicly suggest that. He should.

no analysis exists to support the positive effect of having a wall

The Great Wall of China and Hadrian's Wall separating England and Scotland are good historical examples of walls that previous successful and long-lasting civilizations thought necessary to protect themselves. Not to mention many other recent examples of walls that worked quite well, like the Berlin Wall, and Israel's wall.

The Berlin Wall kept people prisoners of the communists pretty damn well.

It was torn down when pretty much everyone on that side got sick of communism.

Oh boy... wrong again..

Hungary Builds Border Wall, Illegal Immigration Drops 99%.

The border wall, which was built in 2015 despite being criticized by the European Union and Germany’s Angela Merkel, has proved incredibly successful, cutting the number of illegal immigrants from 391,000 in 2015 to just 1,184 in 2017.

Speaking on the second anniversary of the government’s move to seal Hungary’s border with Serbia — which is also an external border for the European Union — Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Chief Security Advisor, György Bakondi, said “the system of technical barriers is the key to the success of border security, and without it, it would be impossible to stop the mass arrival of immigrants”, the security chief explained.

39   REpro   2019 Jan 1, 7:49pm

Walls always worked. Not to mention private fences around houses.
Maybe after 50-100 years southern wall will be obsolete, but so far the is quite nothing more effective to stop mass migration.
Why Democrats do not start movement #MeNoWall and destroy they private property walls, to show reluctances to Trump wall?
40   FortWayneAsNancyPelosiHaircut   2019 Jan 1, 8:55pm
